Daily fever for weeks and blood results

For 6 weeks now I've had fatigue and daily low grade fevers, usually around 37.8, 37.9 or 38. Sometimes it's a bit lower in the day but I do have to take paracetamol to feel better. In addition neck glands have been up for 6 weeks. I've not had a cough or sore throat or lost weight. I had a complete blood count last week which showed I'm a bit anemic. The doctor says she's not sure why I'm having persistent low grade fevers and lethargy and said maybe she will refer me for a chest X-ray but she left the phone call without really much of a plan. I can't see why she'd mention a chest X-ray if my glands are up in my neck. This was a telephone call and I've not actually been examined. Since this is going on is it possible a cbc doesn't always detect cancer because my gp felt the blood result would have shown that. I'm at a loss what to think or do because it's been 6 weeks of this. Any ideas or anyone had symptoms like this before a diagnosis?

  • I've been like this since March so going on nearly 4 months now and it's frustrating that it's taking so long to deal with but I fully understand due to covid services were restricted. Been a long time without any answers and I hope yours doesn't last this long and hope you get some answers soon xxx

  • That's a long time like isint it I feel for you I hope we can both get answer and feel better soon

  • Hi Chris,

Somehow I missed this reply in my inbox. I'm so sorry to hear you've been made redundant. I hope you're able to get a new job soon!

I was wondering, do you worry how you can do normal things like go to a dentist etc? So many places now are checking temps and a friend said her dentist surgery checks and they won't allow you in if your temp is 37.5 and above. I also have a stent in my iliac vein due to a condition called May Thurner Syndrome. I had the op done under private health care and I was supposed to have a 6 month ultrasound check in April but they too say you can't attend if a fever is present. Since I've now had temps for just over four months I really don't know how I can get past all this. Even if I asked my GP to write a note, they could say they won't take the risk in case I've since got covid or something. I'm going to talk to my GP about this, because im getting concerned I can't get things like my stent checked.
Today I slept for 2.5 hours in the afternoon. Fatigue is also still an issue. I know exactly what you mean when you say you feel people are fed up. I feel that people must think I'm making this up. I've got to the point I take my temp in front of them sometimes. My family are great but it's a bit like having ME, where people think you must be a drama queen or something because it's gone on so long. Or too long in their eyes. Also I sometimes get better days so I feel it's hard for people to get. I've got to the point now where I think this is physically the new me. Fatigue and fevers that might never go away  I can deal with that if it continues, but with all the temp checks that are being introduced I feel the restrictions are going to be a real problem as they're proving to be already  xx

  • Sorry to hear this it's so difficult isnt when you don't want to miss appointments and things. Have you had a covid test at all as maybe you could use result as proof or maybe it might be an idea to see if your gp can organise a covid test so at least your able to attend urgent appointments and stuff... I'm still spiking also not as much as I was but definitely spiking and fatigued all the time.. had a covid antobidy test few days ago so see what result says even though I've heard they are not accurate. I would definitely try and get a test as I use mine now to show people so they know I've had a test already. Sorry your going through this:( xx

  • Hi, just thought I'd check in and see how you're doing! How was your antibody test? Mine was negative but I was told they're only 70% accurate by my GP and timing of them

is important too. I'm still getting low grade fevers. 5 months now. I have a phone appointment with my GP in two weeks time as the fatigue, clammy skin and fevers up to around 38 for so many months is making me wonder if there is anything they could have missed. I'm also going to ask if they could give me a note so I can go to things like the dentist etc as they check temps. How are you doing? I hope you're feeling better x

  • Hi my love I'm still no closer to any answers like yourself my antibody test was also negative had some mild changes in my Aorta which they think is vasculitis although a certain blood they did came back negative for vasculitis. Anyway I've been to see a rheumatologist who has ordered some different bloods which I should have results soon and has put me on oral steroids for 12 weeks to see if they help. But yea still no official diagnosis so as of now it's a fever of unknown origin. How are you feeling other than the obvious I'm really sorry your also having to suffer it's horrid isn't it xxx

  • Oh no sorry to hear you're going through all this. It's so frustrating isn't it? I'm just the same; low grade fevers, clammy, tired easily, headaches. I will see what my GP suggests when I speak to him in a couple of weeks. I haven't lost weight or my appetite so that's a positive. X

  • Yea no weight loss for me either and I'm eating like a pig... but same as you still spiking at 38 daily and breathless sometimes also and a cough that comes and goes and just feeling like general crap and my gp has basically given up on me as he couldn't get me in to examine me so I can't complain as all my appointments have been rushed through as urgent but the frustration comes from feeling like I'm attending appointment after appointment and no one can tell me what's wrong... sorry I've not messaged much here also had so much on but I'm always here and am thinking of you always too. So have they not said Wether they are going to do any more investigations with you to try and maybe rule out things or ? As I don't want you to be palmed of with any old answer or no answer at all... they were Tring to put mine down to a post viral illness but surely it shouldn't last as long as ours has  xxxx

  • Hi, yes GP and hospital said they're sure I've had covid, that it's post viral and they have seen others just like me. I had lots of blood tests and my GP even saw me face to face knowing I have temps. He said I wont be contagious after this long of fevers. I don't have a cough, I get wheezy but I'm asthmatic anyway. So I'll chat to him in two weeks and ask him what to do now. He did say as covid is new he has no idea how long this will last. ME organisation say they feel people are developing ME as a result. I wonder if that's what I have. Apparently ME causes low grade fevers. If it's rhat, I hope it will go away and I can get a note for it to use for any appointments. X

  • Yea when hospital discharged me they wrote on my notes most likely post viral illness. I feel terrible for you as i know first hand how debilitating it is and it's worse when it seems no one knows what to do with us. I don't even call my doctor now as I'm under a general medicine Consultant and a rheumatologist also so pointless hassling him. Yea I don't think either of us would still be contagious this far along but I do hope we can both get some answers and possibly treatment to help if need be. I've been on my steroids a week yesterday and my temps are still creeping at times and in all honestly don't feel like they are making a difference and I'm terrified to go outside as I'm so immunosuppressed now with them being a high dose but i have to go shops and appointments it's really difficult xxxx
