Daily fever for weeks and blood results

For 6 weeks now I've had fatigue and daily low grade fevers, usually around 37.8, 37.9 or 38. Sometimes it's a bit lower in the day but I do have to take paracetamol to feel better. In addition neck glands have been up for 6 weeks. I've not had a cough or sore throat or lost weight. I had a complete blood count last week which showed I'm a bit anemic. The doctor says she's not sure why I'm having persistent low grade fevers and lethargy and said maybe she will refer me for a chest X-ray but she left the phone call without really much of a plan. I can't see why she'd mention a chest X-ray if my glands are up in my neck. This was a telephone call and I've not actually been examined. Since this is going on is it possible a cbc doesn't always detect cancer because my gp felt the blood result would have shown that. I'm at a loss what to think or do because it's been 6 weeks of this. Any ideas or anyone had symptoms like this before a diagnosis?

  • Has anyone here got an answer yet? Ive had fever and chills on and off for a year. Im worried sick  It only happens at night, I wake from my sleep shivering and shaking with a fever of around 37.8. It started about 15 months ago. I was sent to a hematologist last year, got all my bloods done and a chest xray. All was normal and I was discharged. My symptoms settled for a few months but are now back just as bad as before. My doctor is contacting the hematologist again. Im so worried especially because its going on over a year. Im terrified its lymphoma  my anxiety is through the roof

  • Hi, sorry to hear you've been feeling so poorly. It's been over 6 months for me of fatigue and almost daily low grade temps. I've had blood tests come back fine and a clear chest X-ray. My GP has now ordered a full body ct scan. Should be any time now for that. Maybe it's worth you asking your GP if you can also have that? X

  • What does your temp be? Do you have chills/shakes? I will definitely be asking for a ct if it isnt suggested! She is going to phone me back nexr week. Do you have any swollen lymph nodes or other symptoms?

  • I have swollen nodes and daily low grade fever for a few months.  Do any of your fevers only happen at night, or throughout the whole day.  I'll have normal temp in the morning, and then like clockwork, by 6pm or so, my temp goes up to 37.8 and will go back normal by morning.

im worried about lymphoma, but also just want these fevers to be done with.

somwthing I found is called psychogenic fever where stress causes chronic low grade fevers.  Something to look in to

  • You are lucky you got a clear ct. I would feel so good if I got that. Im still fighting for a scan and am waiting to hear back. Its so frustrating!

I have looked into psychogenic fevers as I do have chronic health anxiety. Do you suffer anxiety?

  • Hi sorry to hear you've been unwell. Are you okay now did you have an outcome? I've had similar symptoms, temp over 38 every day for 2 months but it can swing to normal like in the morning but then go up. 3 negative covid tests. Chest x ray fine. Bloods normal. Doctors are stumped, I do have anxiety though.

  • Im sorry you have similar symptoms. I finally got a CT scan and all was normal! So I really havent a clue whats going on but I'm less anxious about it now. Its been going on a year and a half so I'm thinking surely if it was sinister it would show on a scan. I still wake from my sleep burning up and shaking. Wish I could get an answer

Hope you feel better soon and your symptoms go away!

  • I've just had blood tests after temperature being a little high every day for 3 months (3 Covid tests negative) and fatigue. Anaemia is all they show, follow-up appt in 10 days.

Search online brought up possibility of low vit B12 causing that combination of symptoms. I don't eat meat or much dairy so maybe that's it, in case that helps anyone else figure out their problem. On the other hand, I think B12 levels was one of the tests they ran and they didn't say anything showed up amiss other than being slightly anaemic...

Plus, I was anaemic before I was vegetarian. Passed out in the middle of the Biology lab floor after first blood donation in school - blacked out after many a donation since but never surpassed that time for entertainment value!

Any answers yet anyone? (Not yer age - time since symptom onset!)

  • Hi everyone, on one hand I am so happy I found this thread online on the other I am so sorry it's been going on for so long for some of you.

I am totally with all of you, kinda feel like we're on the same boat. My fever started when I was quarantining because of my husband's positive covid test so just didn't think anything of it, took a test two days later - negative. after quarantine I've had antibody test - negative and then a week later another covid test - negative.

My fevers are bouncing between 37.2-38.9, I have hotflashes, my face is burning, headache, a bit of chest discomfort and I feel foggy. test bloods showed high red bloods count and low white cells and also low b12, folates which is strange because I'm eating super healthy, loads of greens so it's a madness.

just wanted to let you know that it's good to know there are others out there feeling similar and stressing because we're not getting anywhere

  • Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if any of you will see this but I made an account especially because it seems you're the only people I could possibly somehow relate too.

First of all, I need to start by saying I am not a cancer patient, and I have never been, so I hope this is okay to post? Deepest apologies if it isn't. I also need to apologise because this is incredibly long.

It's just that I have had a fever since February 2020 and I still have it to this day (31st of March 2021). When it began in February 2020 it was 37.7. I didn't have access to a thermometer for a time between mid February and late March but I felt unwell. When I finally got a thermometer again, my temperature was 38 degrees. I then continued to monitor the temperatures every day and every single day it was 38 - 38.8. At the time it was the height of the pandemic so I was too scared to go to the doctors and I thought it would pass.

Around April, I decided I couldn't wait any longer so I called 111. They assessed my symptoms over the phone (fatigue, fever, nausea but no vomiting, general malaise, dizziness and headaches) and they put me in the 'covid bracket'. They told me to self isolate for 2 weeks, even though I told them I'd had the fever for months, so I did..

I put up with it again, until July when it became unbearable- it was the height of summer and I had 38.8 - 38.9 fever every single day. I went to my GP. She did every blood test under the sun. Checked for blood cancers, such as lymphoma and leukaemia as well as tropical diseases and covid antibodies. The blood tests came back completely normal, apart from raised blood platelets, which have been high since 2016.

My GP was still concerned about my symptoms so she reffered me to an ultrasound. It was clear.

I was then reffered to a stomach specialist, who when realised I don't have a stomach issue, reffered me to haematology (which makes more sense due to the raised blood platelets!).

I saw the haematologist in February 2021 and they did only 2 things. A general blood test and a follow up appointment in May 2021. I have 2 months to wait until my next appointment and I've had a fever of 38.2 for 10 nights now.

During the time of September 2020 and February 2021, my temperature would rise and fall. Lowest being 36.8 for 2 weeks at most, but the fever would always return at 37.5 to 37.8. In February I thought it was calming down, but then heading into March 2021 it sky rocketed and it seems to be back as bad as it was last March. My worry is that as summer approaches it will get very high again, and I'm feeling worse every single day.

They have no leads, and no ideas. They've never seen this in a non-cancer patient my age. I'm 21, 22 in April. I'm a bit overweight but I'm active and I've lost 17lbs since Christmas. Although my fever is slowing down the weight loss now. I don't have any medical conditions apart from migraines and this fever. I've also been vegetarian since 2015, when I was 15, but I've never been told I have a vitamin deficiency.

I've never had covid-19, that I'm aware of. I've had an antigen test and an antibody test. Both were negative. I was very sick with a flu like illness in December 2019 but I was unintentionally around what would now be classed as vulnerable people during the covid pandemic and they never caught what I had so I definitely don't think I had covid.

I'm posting this very long message in the hope that more people will come forward with the same issue and would maybe share their experiences with this crazy fever of unknown origin.

I also hope you are all doing well and I wish you all the best. Stay safe and I hope to speak to you soon! x
