Daily fever for weeks and blood results

For 6 weeks now I've had fatigue and daily low grade fevers, usually around 37.8, 37.9 or 38. Sometimes it's a bit lower in the day but I do have to take paracetamol to feel better. In addition neck glands have been up for 6 weeks. I've not had a cough or sore throat or lost weight. I had a complete blood count last week which showed I'm a bit anemic. The doctor says she's not sure why I'm having persistent low grade fevers and lethargy and said maybe she will refer me for a chest X-ray but she left the phone call without really much of a plan. I can't see why she'd mention a chest X-ray if my glands are up in my neck. This was a telephone call and I've not actually been examined. Since this is going on is it possible a cbc doesn't always detect cancer because my gp felt the blood result would have shown that. I'm at a loss what to think or do because it's been 6 weeks of this. Any ideas or anyone had symptoms like this before a diagnosis?

  • Yea mine was getting up to about 38.6 38.7 about a month back and mine also feel like they don't always respond to paracetamol it's gone down a tad as seems to be sitting around 38 mostly now and comes and goes aswell but don't feel sick with the temp like I was month or so back. Yea i also was checking my partners with our non contact thermometer and he was getting normal readings so I knew I had a fever.. spiking now actually hot to touch I've also been keeping a log of temps twice daily right the way through. I feel your pain as people must be getting sick of me also as all I've done is worry and although i know it's nothing sinister it's still horrible feeling like this for so long and all the worry before i had any investigations done. Hopefully it will pass for us both soon guessing we just have to ride it out. xxxx

  • We will have to update each other when it finally passes! As mentioned, for the last few days my temp has been closer to normal but over the weekend I could barley move for fatigue. Today I've had more energy so I'm hoping this might be recovery. But I've had this happen three times before so I won't tempt fate too much! There must be an end though...there has been for one of my friends who was ill for 4 months with it and now she's better. She was unwell from December until April. Here's hoping for us both! ️

  • Fingers crossed keep in touch xx

  • Hi again RLC how are you doing? Okay I hope. I've been to my outpatient appointment sent me for a pet scan which I've now had just waiting for results doctor has also done lots of different bloods to be taken and also a covid antibody test which I'm going for Monday.... still feeing pretty *** daily with the fever sitting at 38.1 38.2 still nauseous and breathless but only slightly and i tend to panic a bit and make my breathing worse. How's things your end ?  xx

  • Hi again RLC I've spoken to doctors secretary today's who has informed me a letter with results of pet/ct scan are sent out to me and I've been referred by doctor to rheumatology... looked this up and it's autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis so think the next step is go to that appointment. Secretary wouldn't tell me what was found on scan so have to wait till letter arrives. How are you doing ? xx
  • Hi,

I hope you find answers soon! I had a blood test for inflammation a couple of months ago as my doc said it might indicate inflammation for things like rheumatoid arthritis. It came back negative. It's now four months since temps started. They are still going on, on average around 38, sometimes a bit higher. I still get headaches and fatigue. I am still thinking it's covid that I had and maybe I've developed a mild form of ME from it or something. My doc said he has several patients like me. I sometimes get a few days reprieve, but mostly I have temps etc. It's the most frustrating thing ever. Let me know how you get on. Thinking of you and good luck! Xx

  • Yes it's really frustrating isn't it as I feel like I'm being passed around as nobody knows what's wrong with me. Guessing she has seen something on the pet scan which is significant enough to warrant me going to rheumatologist... ive been doing a little browsing and found loads of forums for what people are describing as long timers people like us who are suffering long after effects of what they think is covid... on top of all that I've just been made redundant but honestly with everything I've got going on I'm sort of glad to have one less thing to stress about if that makes any sense.  Yea my temp also still persistent and around 38.3 38.4 highest. Going for bloods tomorrow morning and then await this letter from doctor which will explain what was seen on scan. I really do hope you get a break soon also it's a nightmare to try and continue on daily while suffering like this I'm starting to feel my loved ones are getting fed up of me but honestly it's so distressing... lots of love and hugs Chris xxx remember if you have a bad day I'm always here

  • Hi there have you heard eny more on your situation I have had a fever now for 7 weeks I have been to the hospital had bloods done and a lung scan ecg and everything came back fine

  • Hi Patrick I went for a pet scan a few weeks back and received the letter with result today. I have a mild change in the Aorta which the consultant is going to refer me to rheumatology for. I have been speaking with my partners step dad who seems a little concerned that I have kawasaki like symptoms so I'm awaiting a call of my general practitioner this afternoon. The referral is to find out if I have vasculitis but everything is taking so long and my symptoms are not letting up at all. Hope your ok and I'm always here for a chat should you need to offload xx

  • It most be doing your head in for waiting so long for everything I am goin to phone my doctor up after 2 try and get a appointment for monday I hope I am better soon how long have you been feeling like this for now and thanks same to you aswell
