Breast Screening

Morning,

I am new to this forum.

I'm 38 and recently found a lump in my left breast. GP said it felt like a cyst, but, referred me to he breast clinic. I had my appointment yesterday, had a scan which was inconclusive, so had a mammogram which has shown an irregular mass. Had a biopsy and they have also taken a biopsy from under my arm. I'm now petrified that it's cancer, and going by what my consultant said, they have a good suspicion that it is breast cancer. Just wondering if anyone else who has been thorough similar.

  • Hi Kezza81

Welcome to the forum and sorry you find yourself here. When I was screened they thought the calcifications on the screen were normal for someone my age but they did biopsies anyway and the results showed I had high grade DCIS, thank goodness they did the biopsies, otherwise I would have walked out of that clinic a walking time bomb. Post op pathology found invasive cancer in both breasts, so I was very lucky. Yes, there was moments I was scared, only natural to be so but mine was caught early so treatment less invasive and survival rate is good.

As for you, they won't know for sure what you have until the biopsy results come back, they may come back benign, so its not cancer until they say its cancer. Try and keep yourself busy to take your mind off the dreaded waiting for the results. I wish you luck, do come back and let us know what the results were please. x

  • Thank you so much for replying.

I'm glad they caught your cancer early.

My lump appeared very suddenly and very painfully after doing a boxing class (exercises really is the devils work) . It seems to get bigger, then smaller. I have very large and dense breasts which make things more difficult to feel. I'm now scared that it's been growing for a considerable time, and due to my breast size I have been unable to feel it until now, and now that it's palpable it's spread.

The waiting is driving me mad, and also Google is not helping

Thanks for listening to my ramblings. I hope your recovery is quick and easy xx

  • Thanks Kezza but my cancer was caught two years ago and finished all my treatment last year - just on anastrozole now for the next 5 years and yearly mammograms.

Dr Google is awful, do try and stay away from it. I personally would take some comfort in a lump that appeared suddenly and then got smaller but only the biopsy results will tell for sure.

I also had reactive lmph nodes under arm but thankfully these turned out to be benign. Always happy to listen to ramblings

  • Excellent you have finished treatment. There are so many women on here who have had great outcomes.

My nurse just called to say that the result won't be ready for my appt on Tuesday due to shortages at the Path lab (covid related) which they warned me might happen. So another week of the dreaded wait.

I am going to stay off Google and these forums until I know 100% what I am dealing with.

Please take care, and I'll pop back on when I have had my results.

    Xx
