2WW referral but 6 weeks & no wiser

Had referral by GP for suspected soft tissue sarcoma. Leg. Early March. Had X-ray & blood test same day local hospital

Weeks later 9 April,  sent to a hospital out of area for ultrasound. 7.5 hour round trip. Radiologist told me he was writing to gp with result as I left. Rang surgery several times, GP only received yesterday after I contacted hospital they agreed to re send it. I was supposed to go for MRI at same hospital this week but had no clue why or what they'd found previously

Asked for appointment to be postponed until I had facts and could weigh up risks

The travel on public transport is obviously risky, drawn out cos of cancellations  and involves trip across water, bus, train and taxi. Apparently local hospital doesn't do 2ww so have to do it. If treatment is needed I don't know how I will cope with travel to be honest or if hospitals still doing any

This isolating must cause delays for many affected with cancer tests, treatment diagnosis and it's definitely affecting stress levels.

  • I'm sorry to read what's going on Mermaid; it sounds very difficult, but I just wanted you to know that we're here for you.

As you've mentioned many members are, sadly, also being impacted by the current situation so I'm sure some of them will offer their support and advice to you soon but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses then you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • Well it's now 3 months since GP sent me for 2ww. Had numerous tests, and 2 weeks ago a biopsy. Have had no information and no results following MRIx2, US, X-ray and biopsy so am none the wiser. Managed to contact Sarcoma nurse last week but she just said the results aren't back. As the hospital is a distance away she said they would phone with outcome and I assume a treatment plan

It's been a very stressful 3 months and have just had to guess the scans showed a questionable tumour from which they took a biopsy. My worry is that in the 3 months the cancer will have spread or be untreatable.
