Found a lump, waiting on my hospital appt

Hi there,

I found a lump in my right breast on Tuesday (14th April), went to see the doc on Wednesday (15th April) who had a feel around and said she would have to refer me to the hospital for a further check.

Got a call today (20th April) to go see the specialist on Thursday 30th April.

After reading some of the chats on here, am I right in thinking that they won't be able to tell me anything at that appointment? And what do they do at that appointment? Just a mammogram or a biopsy and scan too?

Really worries, obviously, but any help/comments would be great.

Thanks

Gillian

  • Hi. I had my appointment last week.

In my case I had an examination, mammogram, scan and a biopsy.

i was told there and then. I think if they have clear results on imaging and it is clearly a cyst, they'll probably tell you. If it's clearly cancer, they'll probably tell you. If they honestly can't tell at that point, then they will be honest with you about that.

Even if they take a biopsy, the results are likely to be over the phone so if they already know without seeing the results, I guess it makes sense to tell you face to face.

I hope this helps and good luck. Most breast lumps turn out to be benign.

  • I had a lump checked out at the hospital today - they had a poke and did an ultrasound scan and were able to tell me there and then that it was nothing to worry about. My aunty is undergoing treatment for breast cancer and they also told her on the day of her mammogram that they were confident it was. I think they can give you an idea if they think it is but wait for the official results before confirming it. I really hope you get the all clear x
