Possible Hodgkins lymphoma?

Hi,
So I started with normal palpatable lymph nodes in left side of my neck at the end of February, 3 weeks went by... my neck & under my chin had swelled up & it became very noticeable. The swelling went down slightly in a couple days. The swelling I had changed my voice even though I didn't have a sore throat and felt generally really well in myself. I called my GP and was told to have a FCB blood test which came back 'normal' and no sign of infection. So, another 3 weeks went by and I rung GP again as my neck was still a little swollen, the GP then called me in the same day and referred me to Lymphoma. I was seen in clinic 2 weeks ago and the consultant said it's a "possible Hodgkin's lymphoma". He said my lymph nodes are not swollen but they are palatable & my spleen was tender. The consultant sent me to have my bloods done the same day. A week later after having my bloods done I rung the clinic to see what my blood came back as, my blood have all come back "normal" & no sign of infection. The specialist nurse did say that I've had some "past exposure to CMV" which stays in the body forever and raised liver function BUT no current infections. I feel better knowing my blood results have come back normal

I've had symptoms such as, feeling exhausted/tired, headaches, lower back pain, odd itching during the night, odd night sweats (Having to leave my window open/shower immediately when waking up in the morning), not having a great appetite and loss of weight.

On week 3 from when I was seen last at clinic & Im due to have my Ultra sound & biopsy on my neck tomorrow And PET scan the following day after my ultra sound. I am incredibilty nervous about having this done as I just don't know what will show up.

So, currently I don't have swollen lymph nodes but I do have the same lymph nodes that I've had for 8 weeks, they are hard on palpate and not moveable, there is a couple of them in my neck that I can feel. They don't hurt when I touch them but I do experience odd sharp pains in my neck that happens without touching my neck. I do have odd itchies on my neck.

when I swallow, eat, drink or yawn, the underneath of my chin will become lumpy and swell up sometimes, it feels like there is a lymph node there but when the swelling goes down after couple of minutes I can't feel it until I have something eat or drink or even yawn again and it can become noticeable. Has anyone else experienced this?

I was just wondering if anybody else has experienced this and been diagnosed with some type of Lymphoma? Im just really confused on how to feel right now.

Thank you x

  • Hey,

I haven't been diagnosed with lymphoma but I too have loads of swollen lymph nodes in my neck, collarbone (one side) and armpit (both sides) the biggest one being 1.5-2cm in my armpit. I've been worried about lymphoma since December but my doctors don't take me seriously. At first they didn't even feel all my lumps, bloods were find. I literally fought so hard to get an ultrasound (one through a locum doctor) and the other with my gp (it's only her and a locum that work there) who made me feel poo about needing the ultrasound after she didn't even check my armpit properly (she had my arms in the air but you are supposed to lower the arm and feel against the rib) she literally spent 20 seconds with me after I waited an hour it's a joke lol. Annnnnywho scans say they are just normal reactive lymph nodes but it's been since December my throat hurts, my ear hurts, i have a cough that comes and goes, my left rib cage has swollen and is tender and flared. The inside of my elbow hurts. They won't send me to a specialist now they want me to do a chest X-ray (another locum doctor, my actual doctor doesn't care and told me to focus on my baby) but my fiancé is a key worker staying away from home so it's just me and my 17 month old I can't have a chest X-ray plus I'm terrified about leaving the house catching the virus as lymphoma is on the shielded list and my lungs have been poo before requiring intubation and i panic just thinking about it.

it's good you are having a biopsy and a proper scan. Sounds like you are in good hands!!

let me know how you get on,

    good luck x

  • Hey becksxxx

Seems like you’ve had a pretty awful time. Did you have an ultrasound in the end?

What symptoms did you suffer with?

I went to the GP thinking I’ve got an under active thyroid but GP instead refered me straight to lymphoma, I didn’t really expect this and it was a complete shock.

Im very nervous about today but im hoping for the best.

Try call the GP and explain your situation again and see if they can push anything for you.

i will do & thank you

    stay safe x

  • Yes I did have an ultrasound showing reactive lymph nodes.
but they still haven't gone, 5 months later and they ache and are more noticeable. If it was just my neck I wouldn't worry so much.

    symptoms include

    - nodes in neck, collarbone and armpits

    - cough / sore throat on and off but very mild

    - protruding left ribs and very tender

    - bruising super bad

I think I'm going to have to wait for this craziness to calm down I can't talk my son out and I'm just not sure an X-ray is worth the risk of potentially catching coronavirus when it cannot rule anything out.

A biopsy will give you definitive answer, and a CT scan is much more effective than an ultrasound so that's all good!

best of luck! Will be thinking of you x
