lymph node biopsy appt/ symptoms worsening

Hello everyone,

I've had swollen lymph nodes in my neck for around 9/10 weeks now and have been going through various tests and scans after being referred to a haematologist via the two week wait referral pathway. I actually had my CT scans this past Thursday and some bloods done about two weeks ago which showed anaemia and low lymphocytes. However, I've noticed that over the last week or so, the swollen lymph node(s) in my neck have gotten quite a bit larger (now about the size of a golf ball) and are even starting to be a bit painful. I'm also beginning to really struggle with fatigue and finding it hard to even get out of bed now much less work effectively on uni coursework I'm meant to be doing. The biopsy, which I guess will either confirm what my haematologist suspects to be hodgkin lymphoma, or suggest a weird infection or something is, however, still about ten days away, which seems like quite a while when I'm starting to feel a whole new level of unwell. I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to call my haemotologist's office on Monday and explain that I feel like my health has declined even further recently and see if he might be able to do the biopsy sooner/offer some other advice to manage fatigue and pain in the meantime, or if I should just sit tight, pop some more ibuprofen, and wait for my actual biopsy appointment on the 29th?

  • I don't think it would hurt to call, the worst they can say is no you'll have to wait. I'm a student too, I've been trying to get my lymph nodes sorted since december when I noticed my first, mine are in neck, collarbone and armpits. Biggest about 1.5 cm but they say it's because I'm skinny.. I'm not I'm average and my gp didn't even feel all my nodes. I'm at home trying to do my exams with a 17 month old on my own which is making it difficult. I have had ultrasounds showing reactive nodes but bloods saying no infections...I don't have many other symptoms except, achy neck, one tender node, sore throat on and off and a protruding left rib cage which is sore. I can't do chest X-ray atm as alone with my baby so just isolating and praying these stupid lumps disappear!!

sounds like you got a good care with your gp/hospital. Give them a call, you never know!! All the best
