Found a lump

Hi, 

Like so many others, I'm starting to feel so anxious. I found a kidney bean shaped lump on my breast over the Easter weekend. Made a doctors app and was seen very quickly even in these stressful circumstances.  I'm 48, and my boobs have always been sore and lumpy around my time of the month.  I had a hysterectomy last year but kept my ovaries so still have a few symptoms around that time of the month.  However the lump was still there, my doctor could feel it, I got al call from the hospital today ( two days after seeing my GP ) and am going in early next week.  Now I'm panicking that the referral has come through so quickly.   My mind is wondering now, thinking the worst. 
Could anyone help me with what to expect at my hospital appointment....?

    im in the exact same situation found a lump I didn't take it to seriously got it checked though as I have two little ones and wouldn't forgive myself if it was serious. I'm 26 and healthy no other symptoms. I went to gp half expecting them to say don't worry but I think they are overly cautious! She felt my lump and said she would put a refferal through to rule out cancer. I was very shocked, she said it wouldn't take to long to be seen. An sure enough got a letter to go Monday! I was alarmed at how quickly it took two days. So I'm figuring it's the norm. Try not worry and stay safe!

    Ah so you know exactly how it feels. I swing from thinking it's nothing to worry about as 8 out of 10 cases are not cancer, but then I think the worst.  Please let me know how you get on.

    Yeah that is me I keep going back to what the gp said if it is cancer it will be dealt with quickly it's swirling around In my brain and when I got the letter today I almost cried. Then I calmed myself I'm back and forth all the time. I will let you know. I think they access the breast with either mammogram or ultrasound and biopsy if needed. Il explain the whole process when I've been and hopefully come back with good news!
