Colposcopy really scared

Really scared

Just received an email off patients know best to advice I've got an appointment at the gynaecologist. Rang the hospital and all they could tell me was I have an appoint for 28th April.

Had my smear test at the beginning of March haven't had the results back yet but obviously they are bad that's why I'm been sent for a colposcopy.

Anyone else had a similar experience. The fact that the appointment is less than 2 weeks away is making me think it's something really bad.

previous history

2014 -borderline changes hpv, colposcopy done cin 1 called back in a year for smear

2015 - pregnant so didn't have follow up smear until 2016

2016 - normal smear another in a year

2017 - normal back to 3 years

March 2020 - referred for colposcopy

  • Hi Louelle and welcome to the forum.

Hopefully you won't be waiting too much longer for your results but I hope the information we have about the colposcopy procedure on our website will help put your mind at ease about your upcoming appointment.

Wishing you all the best for the 28th Louelle.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Louelle,

I too had my smear beginning of March, only got the results through on the 17th April - high grade dyskaryosis, which I understand is bad but took 7 weeks to get back!! The letter says they have requested an appointment for colposcopy but no indication of when it will be or where.

Been panicking all weekend that I'm not going to get an appt. with covid 19 causing issues and that I'll just be forgotten about :/

Edited to add that I've recieved my colposcopy appt. through today - 29th April. So looks like we are both on similar timelines.  Don't know if that's reassuring or not!
