Breast biopsy results.

Hi, this is my first post.
I have had painful cysts for the last four years and had a clear no probs mammogram four years ago. Recently I went back to get another mammogram just for peace of mind as a sibling had breast cancer and mastectomy two years ago. I then had to have a second magnified mammogram which was referred for biopsy. The nurse showed me the mammogram image of irregular shaped microcalcifications in what looked like two different clusters. I had a core needle biopsy and have just had a letter for an appointment for the results. Due to coronavirus my letter also contained another letter suggesting the results would be given by virtual appt. Thinking this would be a good sign I phoned just to check if it was a virtual appointment only to be told that everyone else that day had a virtual appointment but me and I had to attend a face to face meeting. So now I'm worried and don't know what to think.

  • Pleased to hear things went well and you're home without drains!

    Hi Hayley,

I bet that you have experienced a great sense of relief to get this all over and done with. Most of us find, as you have done, that the build up is worse than the wait. I was surprised by how easy the operation was.

I am glad to hear that you have a good range of movement in your arm. This may lessen slightly, as you start to heal, so remember to do your exercises egularly.

You will be tired, but just listen to your body, and rest when needed.

I hope that all heals quickly.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I have had biopsi mine was DCIS but it was boarderline cancerious, so I had to go back in for another biopsi then they ring me and say stay by your phone you'll be getting a phone call on wensday, what happens they phones me again and said sorry your results are not back yet, I was fuming, now I got to wait till next week, so try not to read to much into it as it's probably nothing.

Now I have had two operations and second time they went into same place, now it's all red and I think it's infected. I'm gonna phone doctor in the morning.

please don't worry, what will be will be

    good luck

    Hi Hawaii,

I'm not surprised that you were fuming that your results weren't back yesterday. It is hard enough waiting for your results, but so disappointing that they weren't ready.

You say that you have had 2 operations since diagnosis, was this because your surgeon didn't get a wide-enough margin first time? If it's red and sore, I would suggest that you phone your breast care nurse at the hospital tomorrow. The hospital should be better able to deal with breast infections than your GP.

I hope that nothing untoward has been found in your latest biopsy. I shall say a little prayer for you. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

Oh the relief was unbelievable and the outcome was not expected.

Today I braved actually having a look at the scar and my breast and I am totally amazed....nothing like what I expected. With the expander in it just looks like my normal boob without the nipple...the scar is minimal( I was expecting from one side to the other) my surgeon is a genius xx

  • Hi Hayley! Glad you're pleased with the results!

My area aren't even offering expanders during covid so it's prerry much "go flat or go home".

I'll be lucky if I end up an A cup after a mammoplasty. I still don't have a date but likely to be soon.

Take care and look after yourself x

    Hi Hayley,

I am so happy for you. Looking at your scar for the first time is always an ordeal. If it looks good already, when the scars are still new. If the scar is minimal already, you've won a watch!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Oh Izzy, I'm so sorry that you cant get the treatment you want...I was just lucky i guess as i dont think we have a major covid problem here in hull.

Please dont let it get you down...I know it's hard not to do that x

Thinking of you....let me know when you get your date

    Lots of hugs

    Hayley xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

It took me 2 days to look...as I have the support bra on it was easy to avoid...I can understand people are not as lucky as I have been and come off with a lot more scarring and It can be traumatic.

I dont want people to feel like I'm bragging as I have had a good result and upset people...believe me I have had my dark days about it all x

I'm super proud of what I have been through x and I still have my histology to get back so who knows what's to come but for now this feels like a little victory for me xx

Thank you for keeping me sane through this

    Hayley x

  • I'm pleased you were able to have something you are happy with and you should completely celebrate that victory! Let us know how you get on when pathology comes back x
