Breast biopsy results.

Hi, this is my first post.
I have had painful cysts for the last four years and had a clear no probs mammogram four years ago. Recently I went back to get another mammogram just for peace of mind as a sibling had breast cancer and mastectomy two years ago. I then had to have a second magnified mammogram which was referred for biopsy. The nurse showed me the mammogram image of irregular shaped microcalcifications in what looked like two different clusters. I had a core needle biopsy and have just had a letter for an appointment for the results. Due to coronavirus my letter also contained another letter suggesting the results would be given by virtual appt. Thinking this would be a good sign I phoned just to check if it was a virtual appointment only to be told that everyone else that day had a virtual appointment but me and I had to attend a face to face meeting. So now I'm worried and don't know what to think.

  • Hi, I was like that yesterday and hardly slept

It was like a huge relief and I cried.

Wishing you good luck for tomorrow and fingers crossed for you x please let me know how you get on.

I was a bit surprised he said 2/3 weeks and they did  my pre op stuff today. But keep me busy getting organised and the nurse told me to come home and have a good drink lol xx

    Best wishes to you

    Hayley xx

  • Hi May and Debbie,

Thinking of you both today and hope you get the best possible outcome for both of you xx

    Fingers crossed for you both

  • Thank you, unfortunately I have medium grade DCIS and have to have a mastectomy. I was half expecting it from looking at my mammogram images. I know it's early days and I have a lot of info to come but I am upset I can't get reconstruction due to Covid, maybe have to wait up to a year. I'd like a double mastectomy and reconstruction at the same time to reduce health risks and recovery time, but I don't think NHS will do it as I already asked. I am wondering now if I can go private when the NHS are back to normal and are out of the private hospitals. I don't want to get it in the other breast or for them to not look the same. What a lot to think about!

  • Hi may, sorry to hear that you have dcis, that is what I have but mine is high grade.

When have they planned your mastectomy for? Mine is in the next 2/3 weeks and have said they will do reconstruction after this covid virus is over x

I'm looking at it that at least it will be out of me and then I can get on and think of reconstruction at a later date x

Sending much love, try to focus on the fact that you know what your dealing with now and can start fighting it xx

  • I have mine tomorrow, also changed at the weekend from telephone to f2f. Already was told from the scan it is cancer and 13mm in size - just waiting to see what type and grade. Speaking to he nurse, it couldn't be due to my age (41) and being relatively low risk that they're calling me in.

hoping for surgery (last week they mentioned lumpectomy + hormone therapy but possibly the wrong way around due to covid, although now hopeful they will go ahead with the surgery).

  • Hi izzy,

I was expecting all sorts when they changed mine and it was really only to meet with my surgeon and for him to examine me and discuss treatment options.

I'm nearly 40 also and he wanted to make sure he was doing the right thing because we are still relatively young. I could of had lumpectomy but I would have lost most of the breast and nipple anyway so opted for the mastectomy x

    Good luck tomorrow....

  • Thanks Hayley. What bothers me with a lumpectomy (I will sound shallow here) is I have fairly small breasts anyway and they seem to offer reconstruction with a mastectomy but not with a lumpectomy? I'm worrie le about a massive dent and if a mastectomy removes further risk anyway, I'd rather go with that.

do they give you the choice?

  • Hi,

Yes he gave me the choice. Although at the moment there not doing reconstructions at the same time as the mastectomy but will be offered one at a later date once this virus is over.

For me I'm a worrier and he couldnt guarantee they would get it all...I have specks all over the bottom of the right breast and no guarantee it wouldnt come back.

They discussed how I felt and my circumstances...i have a 2 year old and we agreed it was the best option.

  • Hi

I am just checking if masectomy is the only option or is it your choice. I had stage 2 cancer and high grade DCIS which was spreading. I had lumpectomy and 2 further operations to clear the DCIS which was a success.

My consultant said masectomy was an option but I asked to have further surgery. I would have been gutted if they had taken it and surgery removed it. The reconstruction surgery time frightened me so

    Good luck with everything.

  • Thank you. I hope it all goes well xx
