Breast clinic referral

Hi, I'm just writing as my head is a whirlwind. I am 28 years old, my left boob has been a bit painful (on and off) for a few weeks. I have 4 children between the ages of 3 and 7 so I put it down to being banged with them bony little elbows or knees. On Tuesday I found that the left side of my left breast was more bumpy than the right boob and I think I can feel one larger bump there. I went to the GP who referred me to the breast clinic. Today the pain is there again but it's also aching across that fleshy bit towards my armpit. I've rung my GP and they're not overly concerned about it but (like everyone else) I am absolutely terrified. I haven't slept in 2 nights and just want to hear if anybody has had the same kind of thing and what the outcome was?
Many thanks. Vic x

  • Hi Vic,

I thought I would drop by and say hello and welcome you to our forum. I just wanted to let you know that I have just this minute welcomed another young lady to the forum who is a very similar age to you who finds herself in exactly the same situation having just been referred to the breast clinic. You can read [@Zoom]‍'s story here and hopefully you can be of support to one another as you are both waiting to be seen at the breast clinic.

I am so sorry to hear that his is affecting your sleep - I know it's really hard and as I just said to Zoom, the best thing to do at the moment is to try and focus your attention elsewhere, to keep busy and distracted while waiting to find out more. Avoid by all means looking anything up on Google as this will only make you feel more worried.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out to be fine!

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your message, I have replied to Zoom's post. Hopefully it's a good result for both of us.
I am avoiding google at all costs otherwise I may end up whipping my boob off myself with a bread knife

    thank you again.

  • Hi, I hope today was a good day for you, I'm totally drained now. Staff were so lovely just got another week wait had a biopsy done. I hope your wait is over! X

  • Oh not another wait - I'm sorry to hear that! Did they give you any idea what it could be?
I thought of you this morning when I was at my appointment. There was a young girl opposite me and you just pinged into my head and it's all I thought about - that hopefully we would both get the right result. Xx

  • Hi,

they just said they were unsure due to size but reassure me at my age many cases are totally benign so fingers crossed. I have an appointment to go next week so il find out then. How did it go for you? Xx

  • I've got all my fingers and toes crossed for you. If you don't mind, please let me know how you get on. And I'm here for a chat anytime you like. I have had the worst 6 days of my life with this hanging over me so if you need to rant, cry, anything, message me!
The ultrasound showed that mine is milk ducts etc swelling through PMT! Never had it before - wondering if it's due to the extra stress of lockdown and 4 little ones at home. Xx

  • The situation is definitely not helping anything! I feel so worried the consultant was so lovely and reassuring I just have to keep thinking statiscally I will be oright. I bet you were relieved. It's has totally drained me but got to keep positive! My Sore breast is stopping me from not thinking about though! Fingers crossed yeah I will let you know they have an appointment already scheduled in for me for a weeks time to go in to get my results. Xx

  • The soreness is a good sign - the first thing my doctor told me is that cancerous lumps aren't usually painful!
And apparently our age group are more susceptible to fibrocystic breasts so you keep thinking positive! Make sure you rest! Do whatever you need to get through this next week! Xx

  • Yeah it's only tender now because of the biopsy  it didn't hurt during but now the anathsyetic has worn off I'm a bit tender and very aware of my breast! I had pain a while ago but was short lived. I know it is in my favour due to age I'm just be happy when I'm told no abnormalities! I have two little ones to keep me busy they have kept me sane this entire time! Thank you it's been helpful to talk to someone you know has had the same worries as you! Xx
