Sore throat, swollen glands, sore tongue at back

Hi, I have had swollen glands on one side of my neck, a sore throat on the same side, sore tongue in my throat, tinnitus, and pain when I swallow for over a month. I've had 2 lots of antibiotics with no improvement. Doctors wont take me seriously as I'm 32 and have made me feel like I making it up. I havent had an infection, no temperature etc. I have managed to get a blood test but because of coronavirus noone will even look at my throat. I can see what looks like a small spot sized lump sticking out near my tonsil but noone will help. I'm very frightened something's seriously wrong but because of the virus I worry it will just get worse as I cant get help :(

  • Hi I had a little match head sized lump in my mouth in mid march and was worried about it.

I rang 111 and they contacted my gp and told me to get a 3 day appointment.

The GP disgnosed an ulcer and told me to come back in 2 weeks if not gone. 2 weeks later it wasn't gone, and corona kicked in, so visits reduced, but he ensured I saw an oral surgeon and said they will know more and might want a biopsy. Saw surgeon a week ago on Monday, who did take biopsy, stitches just dissolving now, and it didnt hurt even when numbness wore off, so am awaiting results

My GP took it seriously, even though it was only a tiny lump.

    Does GP know about lump?

If not tell them, our surgery seems to like to know about lumps and bumps, for peace of mind, despite corona.

If GPs know maybe, tell 111 what you have told us on here and let us know, lumps need checking even if just for peace of mind.

Please let us know how you get on.

  • Hi

i can understand your concern and worry, I hope you can get an appointment soon. I like you had sore throat heavy tongue had two lots of antibiotics but I also felt something was stuck in my throat and my voice was hoarse, luckily my dr sent me for a quick hospital appt , I've had several scans and am going in tomorrow for a pandoscopy and removal of some tonsils left over from tonsillectomy many years ago, for me it's not the greatest news. But my daughter had the same symptoms at the same time other than hoarseness she went back to drs before lockdown and she's absolutely fine an infection just taking along time to go plus a virus on top. It's especially difficult at the moment getting an appointment and I do hope you are ok and get peace of mind soon, the waiting is torturous.

  • Hi, thank you for replying. Pleased you got somewhere with the doctors and will keep my fingers crossed for u with your biopsy. I told the dr I could see a small ulcer type lump in my throat. He shone a torch in my throat for 2 seconds but it's right at the back at the bottom so he didnt see it and refused to look properly because of virus restrictions. I repeatedly asked what he thought the problem was and he gave me no answers just ignored it. Will try and go back next week and see a different dr.

    Hope you're ok xxx

  • Very sorry to hear you have to have your tonsil removed. Will keep my fingers crossed it's all ok and thank you very much for responding.

Its comforting to know that your daughter had similar symptoms but was ok. Waiting for blood test results and then will try again with a different dr next wk. I've manage to take a picture of the lumo so I'm hoping they will take me more seriously!

Hope it all goes ok tomorrow for you xxxx
