Testicular Cancer scare

Hi all,

I have no real reason to post this other than I wanted to put this information somewhere because it would have helped me.

I'm a 26 YO guy. Last week I was lying in bed as usual, my balls got itchy and I noticed a lump, about the size of grain of rice on my left ball. It is small but definitely noticeable and was new. I'll be honest I don't check them as often as I should but I knew this wasn't normal.

I then spent the entire night googling, reading these forums and other information about testicular cancer. My lump was hard, but smaller than a pea. It's definitely attached to the testicle and it doesn't move and it was slap bang in the middle of my left ball. Those were my only symptoms, but because it was in the middle and didn't move I feared the worst - all the info online basically indicates that this is concerning and could be cancer. I later found the 'light test' and tried this and indications seemed to show the right ball being fine but the left one wasn't lighting up. My balls started to ache but I think this was paranoia as much as anything.

With us in the middle of a pandemic and lockdown, my mind was going into overdrive thinking about this lump and I had no distractions. I called up my GP surgery and managed to get a phone appointment. My dr said it sounded worrying as it was attached to the testicle and he'd want to get me a scan. However due to the virus it would likely be about 15 week wait. Fortunately I'm well off enough to be able to afford a private scan, which was £140 and I'd recommend if you suffer with anxiety like I sometimes do.

I went to the scan fearing the worst, but the doctor assured me that the lumps were not cancerous. I had two scrotolith's both 4mm. The doctor explained that these are harmless and they don't really know why they occur. I wanted to post this because when I was searching I couldn't find any reason for their to be a lump in the middle of my testicle and I wanted to try and put anyone else going through the same thing at ease. Obviously you should still get checked out, but I wanted to share my experience.
