Could this be throat cancer??

I'm a 34 yo female who has never smoked but for the past 6 months I've had what feels like a lump or a graze in my throat with food some times becoming stuck.

Last year I had an ultrasound of my thyroid and bloods and it came back I had A small nodule but nothing to worry about. The feeling then seemingly went away.

About 7 weeks ago the feeling came back stronger ....almost like there is a flap of skin or something present that shouldn't be, just at the back of my throat, just far enough that the gp cannot see without procedures.

I was referred for endoscopy but that was cancelled due to COVID 19 and the gp then referred me for ultrasound again as it's less invasive however I need to wait 2 weeks for results.

My symptoms are : lump/graze type feeling on one side only. Mucus build up. Clearing of throat. Cough. But I'm also constantly worried which I know doesn't help!

I do feel deep down this is all health anxiety related but I can physically FEEL something in my throat. I'm not going mad I swear!

Any advice appreciated!

  • Hi Anxious1234,

Unfortunately no-one here will really be able to advise on this - it's only your doctor who can do this, following the results of any tests. The best thing is to wait for any results, and in the meantime to try to keep busy and keep your mind off things. I know this is often easier said than done, but it does tend to help.

You can always keep an eye on things and discuss anything you want to with your doctor, but as I say it's the medical team who will be best placed to help - so I hope it's not too much longer for you to wait to find out more.

    Wishing you all the best,
