Oesophageal cancer question

Hi everyone! I'll try and keep this short. I lost my mother in December due to oesophageal cancer. I am 34 years old. March last year I had an endoscopy due to daily heartburn and they discovered a small hiatal hernia, NERD and bile reflux. A few times now in the last few months I have had the feeling like food is stuck in my chest where the bottom of the oesophagus is and the same lump feeling in my throat. Naturally because of what happened to my mum I'm jumping to conclusions and I'm terrified it could be the big c as I also have a child I love so much and I saw what oesophageal cancer did to my mum. I have tried to ring the doctor but haven't  been able to get through. I'm looking for some kind words from others and my main question is would oesophageal cancer have grown in just over a year since I had my last endoscopy?

  • Hello bornintoit,

I hope you are coping ok at home. It seems like cancer wasn't found after the endoscopy last year and there's no way of knowing if the lump has developed into anything. I know it must be hard, given that you lost your mum not long ago, but try to stay positive and enjoy the quality time you're having with your child. If your symptoms worsen, I'd suggest you keep trying to contact your doctor and hopefully can advice further.

    All the best,
