Lump on side of vagina

Sorry if I’m posting this in the wrong place or this is the infcorrect forum for questions like this but I don’t know where else to go. I’m a 16 year old girl and found a lump kind of on the side of my vagina (not inside it like a lot of other posts describe). I’m a virgin (if that adds any info) and I googled it (bad decision) and found info saying it’s a possible symptom of vaginal cancer. I don’t have any other of the symptoms described, I’m not bleeding and I don’t experience painful urination but I’m terrified nonetheless. I’ve never been to the gynaecologist and going to the doctor to get it checked out is the most dauntingly thing to me. Is there any other less terrifying explanation for this? :(

  • I wouldn't google for information it will just scare you.

Please phone your GP for reassurance, you will be pleased with yourself if you do.

As for the daunting feeling, GP's have seen so many vaginas they won't think anything untoward about you.

Avoid goolging information as it will just scare you, from my personal experience its the worst thing you can do.

  • Hi, don't worry this happened to me last year. I went to the GP and had my blood tested and an ultra sound. Both came back clear. It's quite common for your lymph nodes to swell and I can still feel the 2 of them almost a year later and often they vary in size as your body fights infection. Still worth calling your GP to discuss but hope they puts your mind at ease.

  • Hi

I hope you are staying off Dr Google you have given yourself  a scare doing that.

If your GP is male and you dont have a female GP then perhaps practise nurse as she will have seen it all before and will put you at ease they do ladies smears and post natal checks all the time.

The female external vaginal area has glands called Skenes glands and Bartholins glands its is very common for a gland to get blocked and when that happens it becomes a solid lump or cyst and is easily sorted.

I hope this is a less terrifying option for you,but go along take a deep breath and get checked.Honestly two minutes in the surgery is far better than worrying yourself sick.

I know you may have to wait while surgeries are not doing physical examinations, but I hope my less scary explanation will calm your fright down.

Take care and best wishes xx

  • Hey! I know your post is 2 years old, but I'm looking for a bit of guidance too.

I'm having the exact same problem as you right now with a soft-ish lump on the wall inside my vagina (kind of by the hole) and I'm 18 years old.
Do you have any updates on the lump? I'm worrying myself sick here and I haven't told my mum.

    all the best!

just realised this post im replying to is a couple of yesrs old  but if anyones going through simular things  it may help you,so im leaving my reply on here.

Hi  just read your post about the lump you said you have found on the outside of your virgina. The first thing I'd say to you have you spoken to your mum about this ,as you say your 16. Are you too embarrassed to tell your mum if you are I can understand that but your mum would be helpful and advise you I'm sure .your obvously very worried  and do need to go to your gp  who will be able to look at the area  your worried about, and it could be your worry,is actualy nothing to worry about but if it is its better to get anything seen as quick as you can,as it can be diognosed  and treated.

I have had a few problems on that area myself,I also found a small lump which felt hard under the skin  not red or anything  just felt small and hard. I'm under a gynecologist, and a dermatologist  as I have lichen serouses, and Vin 3 which is pre cancerous cells ,I was told probably vin 3 was caused by having the lichen serouses, as it can cause it to happen.

I saw my dermatologist this week and I pointed out to her the small hard like lump  that I had found and she looked at it under a microscope, and reassured me that it was just a very small sebaceous cyst, and nothing to worry about. No treatment needed for it she told me many people have these  and it's nothing to worry about.  So your lump could be something like that, but its really best to go to your doctors to get it looked at ,it's my advice to you. Hopefully you will pluck up the courage and go.

    Good luck with evertything.
