Skin cancer

Hi I have never been on this site I had a lump on my leg just right from my kneecap and was diagnosed with skin cancer I had it removed and have a very flap large scar in the shape of an eye they had to go down a bit so there is a dip in the scar they also removed my lymph nodes from my groin I have had checks every 3 months now for 3 years .... what is worrying me now is that there is a large pea sized lump on the seam of my scar which has appeared from my last appointment in December it is just below the skin and very hard and I'm really worried I have contacted my doctor who immediately contacted my consultant who I'm under and they want to see me immediately..... I have done the worst thing you can do and googled it and my head is in a very scary place could my cancer be back ?

  • Hi Michele,

Firstly, don't Google as you can see it's the worst thing to do. If you must google just check websites that are trusted & up to date - this CRUK site, Macmillan and the British Association of Dermatologist websites are the best.

I'm assuming that your skin cancer is melanoma? It can sometimes happen that melanoma returns in the excision scar but it could also be a benign growth - I had a lump appear an inch away from my primary melanoma site - it was found to be benign on biopsy. If it does turn out to be a recurrence it doesn't necessarily mean it's spread - it may be contained in the scar area.

I will send you a friend request - if you accept it we can chat by private message. It's great that you are seeing your consultant quickly so that you aren't worrying for too long. Good luck & please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient)
