Lymph Nodes

Hi, I'm 17 years old and I have had a swollen lymph node behind my ear for 5 months, it is quite hard and painless. I have been to the doctors about 5 times had blood tests done which came back with low B12 and low iron which is now back to the normal. But because of Covid 19 I am not able to get a scan because the radiologists are helping with the pandemic. I'm really worrying and last night I had a full breakdown and cried because I have no idea what to do. My doctor thinks it's nothing but I can't really trust him because he never really tells you what is happening he just gives you tablets and that's it.

  • I am so scared, and I don't know how to get the doctor to listen to me because he won't do anything.

  • My doctor really doesn't really think it is anything but I don't know if I am just getting more worried because of the coronavirus and I think I just need some resurrance or someone in a similar situation to me.
    Thanks

    xx

  • I'm in a similar situation to you I found a lump above my left collarbone about 6 weeks ago. I went to the doctors a few days after I noticed it she said she thinks it's an enlarged lymph node and it's nothing to worry about because it hasn't of been there long and she organised a ultrasound and said she will call me on the 15th April for a checkup to see if it's gone. 6 weeks later and the lump is still there and no ultrasound yet. I know times like this a worrying especially when you don't know what's going on but you will get through it.

  • Thanks, my family keep reassuring me that's it's most probably nothing but my mind has been running wild with possibilities. Hopefully we both get some answers soon.

  • Hi,

I just wanted to post an update so I had enough of the chest pains and my GP not doing anything so I decided to go to accident and emergency. When I got to hospital they took my blood pressure, tempature and a ECG which was all normal and then they took my blood which was normal. I then got seen by a doctor and a chest x-ray was taken and it came back clear. I know this is good news but I can't help but still to worry but no one thinks it is anything but I can't help but to constantly be checking my body and every little pain I have I worry about.

    Thanks for reading my rant

    Abbie

P.S. It would help if anyone had any personal stories it hard when you are young and your family don't believe anything is wrong with you.

  • I understand where you are coming from. I have always been the same, assuming every pain and symptom was life threatening. This is an illness in itself, my GP diagnosed me with health anxiety and I have ve been medicated for it in the past. Perhaps you could look into the condition?

  • Hey, just wanted to give an update so I had my ultrasound about 20 minutes ago and the specialist could not see anything suspicious so that's good. But now I just have to wait to see if my doctor wants anymore tests doing.

  • I was also just wondering are ultrasounds on lymph nodes reliable because I though they were but I'm being told they're not and I don't know what to do.

  • Another update, called my GP and was told that the lymph node behind my ear was a normal lymph node and the armpit lump is a lump of fat. And I know I have mentioned this before hand but are ultrasounds reliable it's just that so many people have put doubt into my mind and I think I just need some reassurance.

    Thank You

    Abbie

  • Hi Abbie,

Was the lump in your armpit hard or soft since it was a lump of fat? I'm just wondering as I'm in the same situation.

it can sometimes help to have somebody to talk to in these situations and this forum is great for that. Usually it's an ultrasound and it goes on to a biopsy if the see anything suspicious
