I'm so worried about mum it's all happening Fast

My mum has had a bad chest since January,  She had 3 lots of Antibiotics and steroids,  she phoned 111 last monday , I had to take her to hospital for a chest xray even though shes isolating,  the doctor called Wednesday to say she had a shadow on her lung and needed a MRI,  I've read CT is better for your lungs ? She got a call to have the MRI friday morning they then phoned her at 1pm friday to say a letter had been sent out to see a consultant Wednesday (tommorow) but they said do not attend the consultant will ring instead, now shes just had a call she has to go for a endoscopy at 10am tommorow do they know its cancer ? If not what else could this be ? Has anyone been through similar? In 9 days she will have had a xray , a mri and a endoscopy I'm worried how fast this is all happening , what do they know ?

  • Hi MrsT123,

I'm sorry to read about your worries with your mum. I know you posted a couple of days ago so by now it sounds like she has had the appointment and so hopefully you know a little more.

I can imagine the speed of all this must be unsettling, but in some ways it is good that you will hopefully get answers faster.

Do continue to use this forum as much as is helpful at any point to talk things through, or just to write down how you feel or any concerns.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Yes we found out yesterday it's a tumour in her lung , I'm absolutely heart broke , she has many more tests coming up in the next 2 weeks , Corona virus has limited what they can do for her which upsets me even more it's like its lowered her chance to fight this , it's so cruel , My dad is ill on on the 12 week isolation for the vulnerable so I will be taking her to all her appointments x

  • I'm so sorry to hear this. Everything is so much more difficult at the moment than it would already have been. It sounds like you're being a great support to her - make sure you look after yourself too, and we're always here to help on this forum. Try to take things one day at a time and hopefully over the next few days and weeks you can find out more about the next steps.

    Take care of yourself,

    Ben

  • Hi MrsT123,

Sorry to read about your mum. We are in a similar situation we found out 11 weeks ago my mum has stage 4 lung cancer. Then we found out it has spread to her brain. It is absolutely heartbreaking she had stents put in her lung 5 weeks ago and ended up on life support. She's strong and pulled through and continued her immunotherapy treatment. They decided to stop her treatment last week as the lung tumour has continued to grow and it's very aggressive. She is now having Radiotherapy to manage her symptoms to make her comfortable and hopefully give her more precious time. It's been a tough and short 11 weeks since her diagnosis our worlds has been turned upside down.

Hope your mum is doing ok x

  • I'm so sorry about your mum , can I ask how old she is and what symptoms she had ? We are just waiting to know mums stage and to see if its spread or not , I'm hoping for the best this waiting is terrible x

  • My mum is only 58. She had been to the GP 3 times between August and December with a cough, shortness of breath and pains in her chest and shoulder. She was also getting headaches, she was repeatedly told it was a chest infection. On her 4th visit in January she insisted on a chest X-ray and it's all gone really fast from there. It was 4 weeks before we knew just how bad her diagnosis was. I pray your mum has better news than my mum has. The waiting is the worst and this virus makes everything so complicated.

  • My mum is 57 , shes been going to the doctors since the beginning of January with her chest they gave her 3 lots of antibiotics and 3 lots of steroids, its only after she phoned 111 with tightness in her chest 2 weeks ago they sent her for a xray it's all been really fast from there, I have took her for a brain scan and lung test today ,just got her scan at Christie's on thursday then back to get all the results next week but I just read the letter what the oncologist sent our doctor it has T1N3M0 does that mean anything to you ? Can they treat your mum ? Hope she is okay , it's awful at any time but this virus makes it 10 times worse   my world has been turned upside down and it's not me who's got it :( xxx
