Breast and Lymph Node biposies

Hi, I found a lump in my breast about a month ago, saw the doc who referred to breast clinic, they could feel it too so referred me to have a mammogram and ultrasound. That was monday, on the day the doc found a second smaller lump and decided to do biopsies (which i wasn't expecting) on both lumps but she also did one on a lymph node (which didn't have any suspicions). My minds a bit in overdrive as i thought that she would just say it's a cyst and that would be that. Is it normal to take biopsies from lymph nodes at the same time? Part of me is wondering if it's because of the coronavirus just to save me having to go back to the hospital if the biopsies do show up something but the other part of me is thinking did they take it because they suspect something from the lump. My doctor was nice but a bit cagey with information. i also had a marker put into the lump, the bigger one, and then had a second mammogram to check it was in the right place. Does this all sound routine?

Thanks

Charlotte x

  • Hi Charlotte,

Firstly, yes this is routine. Most breast lumps are begin but until doctors don't get a biopsy sometimes they can't say things for sure. Try not to worry as ridiculous as it sounds. Waiting for results is the hardest, I know as I also went through this a month ago.

Try and relax as much as you can for now. Cross that bridge when you get it to it and hopefully it's nothing and even if it is, the treatment for this very common cancer is excellent.

  • Thanks so much for replying, i hope you had good results from your appointment. Good to know it's routine, i wasn't warned before hand so it surprised me and made me panic x
