Lymph node raised for over 3 years

First of all I hope somebody could help me with my worries.

Around 3 years ago I noticed my lymph node in my neck by my jaw was raised I had recently had a viral infection so Palmed it off then in the coming weeks I noticed I was having changes in my bowel movements and my arm was burning without any reason. I put it all down to stress as I thought it was something else. I went to the docs he did a full blood test and blood count and took a stool sample it all come back ok.

But my lymph node is still raised so I'm worrying about lymphoma.

Any help would be greatly received

The lymph node hasn't got bigger is painless aswell

  • No lymphona expert, but I think its a great idea to speak to your doctor and tell them what you told us. Hope they can put your mind at rest or refer you to a specialist who can put your mind at rest.

  • Thank you for replying

I went to the docs on Monday he felt my lymph nodes and said they were normal

Also said if it was lymphoma by now I would be seriously ill.

Also the other symptoms are anxiety based so just have to trust his advice.

  • Brilliant that you went to the doctor and you feel you can trust him.

I trust my doctors too. A few weeks ago, I forced myself to go with a mouth lump i had been obsessing over for a few days, and was getting more and more anxious.

The doc said it didn't look sinister but to see him in 2 weeks if lump still there.

Meanwhile Covid kicked in and surgery changed rules, and as lump still there, he phoned me rather than seeing me, and referred me to a biopsy to rule out anything sinister, which I had today.

It wasn't as sore as they said it would be when the local anaesthetic wore off, they said I would need paracetamol, but the little bit of pain there is isn't worth taking a pill over.

Now to wait for results. I still trust my GP, they are not maxillofacial surgeons, so his reassurance did not let me down, he said the maxillo people would know better, they say possible blocked gland, but biopsied me anyway to rule out cancer (I hope)

Anxiety can cause so much un necessary worry, we can convince ourselves we have cancer.

I had biopsy on womb, and was releived when results came back, although that consultant was pretty sure it wasnt cancer, it was still nice to get confirmation.

  • The way I see it the doc knows best and in the 3 1/2 years I had this it hasn't got bigger it's moveable and the doc said believe me you would be ill.

When  I first noticed it I thought it might have been something else so I few tests all come back ok and all the symptoms i had also went away.

Ohh I'm sorry to hear this but your doing the right thing by getting it checked and with this Covid19 aswell.

I really hope you get the result your looking for and I'm sure your doc is right

How long do you have to wait now for the result

  • I don't know how long result will take, they couldn't tell me.

    Hope it's soon.

Glad you trust your doc and hope you feel less anxoius.

  • Yeah the way I see it the feel nodes alot so if mine was anything to worry about he would have sent me for a scan.

Well I hope it's soon and you can move on with everything.

Let me know how you get on .

  • Thankn you, I will add you as a friend as I am forgetful and when I get my result I will let you know.

Yeah I agree with you about doctors feeling a lot of lymph nodes. It's good you can trust your GP, GP's aren't specialists, I don't dis-trust mine because he thought my lump would go away, as he is not a maxillofacial surgeon, and I respect him for passing me on to someone more expert.

  • No what I mean is if my doc suspected anything he would have just sent me for a scan and in truth now I have calmed down I feel alot better and my neck is ok little bump but nothing like it was at the beginning of the week. I do suffer from health anxiety so usually takes alot for me to accept things

Your gp done right aswell. Im sure you will be fine and looking foward to hearing you are too

  • Sorry for misunderstanding you, glad you have calmed down and feel alot better and your neck is ok Glad little bump but nothing like it was at the beginning of the week.

Perhaps our doctors are used to people suffering health anxiety and if you ever feel the need to see them, don't feel bad, I mean this in the nicest of ways.

  • So this is new my neck has gone down but i don't know if the node is smaller than it has been for the past few years or I'm just imagining it is.

Started to worry again as I read lymphoma can shrink at times so my anxiety is high again
