Anxious wait

Hi,

Just wanted to reach out to you all. I discovered what I thought may have been a lump in breast a while ago and thought it was just peri-menopausal stuff, but then it became a definite lump. (This was after a visit to the doc about a year ago re strange ache in my arm and he was quite dismissive) I went to the doc on Monday and he has booked me in for a visit to the local hospital. He thought the lump was about 5cm in diameter. I am now so scared and am sick with anxiety. I have now developed dull ache in my back around my shoulder blade and dull ache in arm. I think I am becoming totally paranoid! Every programme on tv or radio too seems to be about cancer.

Help! Thanks Jx

  • Hi,

I am sorry you having this anxious wait. A breast lump will be investigated by mammogram, ultrasound and maybe a biopsy. Often they are benign so try not to let your mind run away with you. I am sure the Doctors will act as quickly as they can for you.

    Wishing you the best outcome,

    Silver

  • Hi Silver,

Thank you so much for reaching out to me and replying to my post, that means a lot. I am trying to keep busy and not think about it but have a ridiculous overactive brain and reading things on the internet is fuelling my anxiety. My husband is being really supportive and had told me to stop looking! He is glass half full instead of my glass half empty approach. Just worried about my two kids.

Willkeep you posted and thanks again.

  • Hi Silver,

I hope you are well. Just wanted to update you with the results of the tests yesterday. After ultrasound and mammogram they investigated the large lump on my breast. They said it was a very large cyst and drained it. Apparently I have quite a few, so I just need to keep checking them and investigate new lumps when necessary.

I know it may have seemed I was over-reacting but my mum had a bowel cancer op just over a year ago, and they discovered she had breast cancer and cancer in her uterus. She underwent 3 ops, and chemo and had recovered well, but now her cancer is back in her lungs and stomach. So hence why I was really worried if I had left my lump too long, I kept trying to think it was hormonal.

Anyway, a huge sense of relief and wake up call to appreciate the small things and hold all my loved ones close.

Thank you once again for your words of wisdom and support, it really helped when I was panicing about the tests.

    Stay safe.

    Love
