Rectal bleeding every other day

Hi, I would just like to start of with saying I have severe health anxiety so this constant bleeding for several months is driving me mad. I’ve always had a little blood here and there since I was very young and never thought anything of it but now it’s every other day and I’m so scared. I have been to the doctors and they have referred me for sigmoidoscopy but now I don’t know when that’s going to be happening cause of the Coronavirus. I am petrified, I don’t know what to do.

  • It may be haemorrhoids, especially if bleeding is bright red.

If it is dark, it could be coming from further up, but you can always speak to your doctor over the phone, it will go a  long way towards helping your health anxiety rather than stewing over it.

I'm glad I forced myself to go about my mouth lump as I would have stewed and stewed and got worse while not doing anything about it.

  • Hey I have spoken to my doctors but obviously they’re not concerned or taking me seriously. I feel like a ball of anxiety don’t even know what to do at this point with Covid, they’re not giving anyone any appointments:(

  • Have they discussed haemorrhoids with you?

Bright red blood comes out with them?

Our surgery take suspected cancer seriously, can you take comfort in knowing the doctors would take suspected cancer seriously, even with Corona.

  • The doctors think hemorrhoids are causing the bleeding therefore I’m not getting an appointment anytime soon. Today I saw a small blood clot on my stool. I am so scared I can barely concentrate on anything else. :(

  • Awww [@Sabr]‍

I feel so sad that you are anxious.

Can you take comfort from the fact that your doc does think they are haemorrhoids and not cancer?

Having said that, can you phone your doc to say these haemorrhoids have worsened, they can be bleeders, and a pain in the neck. I've not had clots but read that they can cause clots and you could get treatement for worsened clots. You coud even ask them if there is a chance of cancer, but try not to look on the black side, it may well be what he says.

I don't think docs can take risks about ignoring suspect cancer, lawsuits etc, even though my doc thought mouth lump an ulcer originally, he DID take me seriously on phone during covid period when I said it hadnt gone and it's a tiny lump. He did refer me to hospital, awaiting results of biopsy, so, what may seem little to them, a little mouth lump which surgeon suspected blocked gland, she did take the trouble to biopsy.

  • Thank you for your reassuring words, I am so scared I don’t know what to do, just keep googling and freaking myself out even more. This is the first time I saw a blood clot though :(

I’m so glad they saw you and took you seriously, I really hope your biopsy comes back good. When did they say you will get your results?

  • Hi [@Sabr]‍

Googling will freak you out the more you do it.

Can you nip outside, it's a nice day and you will get vitamin d to lift your mood.

I don't think any harn will be done by getting peace of mind by asking doc if latest symptoms are normal.

  • Hey thank you for your words. I did nip outside yesterday. :)

Along with my symptoms and everything being unavailable because of this virus just makes me feel so down.

  • Hi [@Sabr]‍

Glad you got out yesterday, sorry you are feeling down.

Hope tomorrow brings peace of mind or a booking for a  withchat with GP to bring peace of mind.

  • Had a chat with my GP and she wants me looked at, but there’s only so much she can do if the hospitals and the consultants won’t.

I think I saw dry blood in my stool today, a bit of it looked red for sure but not watery.

Can you have dry red blood in stool?
