Scared about throat cancer at 19

Hello

I'm really frightened that I might have throat cancer. Basically I had really severe tonsillitus twice back at the end of October and I was on antibiotics for ages. Mid November, I noticed my one tonsil still hadn't swelled back down and I also had two lymph nodes up on one side of my neck. I went to my doctor and I was tested for glandular fever and had CBC done and both came back clear. I went back to my doctor recently as I had a lymph node on the otherside of my neck go up and I had more bloods done and was told if they came back clear I would need a biopsy. My bloods came back fine and so I'm waiting on a referal but with all this coronavirus going around I'm really scared I won't be seen. I'm so anxious that I have a throat cancer and from what I've found online it would be stage 4 which is pretty much a one way street.

I'm only 19, I've never smoked, I don't drink and I'm absolutely terrified. What also didn;t help was the receptionist at the doctors told me the biopsy I was having was for a lump in my throat but the doctor didn't say he found a lump, so like what is that? I just feel like crying. I'm so scared.

I obviously appreciate that no one on here are doctors but if anyone could give me any help or reassurance I would be really grateful

  • Hello.

Oh dear your health anxiety seems to be taking over your life. Back in January you convinced yourself that you had bowel cancer, presumably these symptoms have disappeared. I think it is very unlikely that you have any type of cancer at your age and you have already had tests which show nothing abnormal. Try not to think too much about having a biopsy as that may be a long way off in the current state of things and our already overstretched nhs . Please try and get some help for your severe health anxiety.

    Kind regards,

    Lynne.
