Pancreatic cancer

Hi,

I have posted on here a couple of times. I have terrible health anxiety which just seems to get worse. I had my gallbladder removed on Dec 23rd 2019 because of gallstones. All went well but about a month before the op I started to get pain on the left side of my abdomen. I have been to the doctors and A&E numerous times with the pain. They said it was shingles but then it wasn't, then muscle strain. I had chest X-ray,(all clear). They have done so many blood tests, urine tests, stool tests but everything has come back normal. I went to the doctors again 6 weeks ago and she said they would do tests again and then refer me for a ct scan as there was nowhere else to go. But 1 week later I was back in A&E with pain in my left side and back. They did loads of blood tests again and all normal. But I explained to the consultant who was excellent about the numerous visits to the doctor and they I was being referred after further tests for a ct scan. He said I didn't need to wait for further tests and fast tracked me for the scan. He was very thorough and listened very carefully to me. I had the ct scan last Sunday. The lady/ nurse in the room told me to tell my doctor I had had the scan and did I gave to phone for results or would they call me. The pain used to be intermittent but is now more constant. It isn't a really bad pain and I can't really say it has got any worse since last November. But I am terrified.  I have completely convinced myself I have pancreatic cancer of some form. My grandma had it and my father had terminal kidney cancer. Even though all the tests have come back normal I am googling and reading about the symptoms so much. It is affecting my waking hours. I cannot reason that it could be anything else.
I am at a loss and almost ashamed of feeling like this when there are so many brave people coping with so much.
please can someone here respond and make some sort of sense?
please

update!

the doctor just phoned to say ct scan was clear. So happy. They said if I still have pain it needs investigating further but in light of how busy they currently are I said I would wait until after the current crisis.

  • Hello, if you still have pain, please don't feel a nuiscance, docs would rather speak to you for 5 mins to resassure you or even refer you to someone who can talk to you, than you sit worrying.

No one knows for sure how long this crisis is going to happen for, please don't suffer in silence, any reasonable doctor will be happy to resassure you if you are in pain.

  • Hi,

I know this post is old but wanted to see how you are getting on?

I started getting abdominal pain on the right side, I had an ultrasound that said I had gallstones but they said they won't remove my gallbladder yet as it's not inflamed.

I started getting pain in the left side now (right side has gone unless I eat fatty foods) aswell as a weird pain in the middle of my back

i ended up in A&E in agony twice in 3 days, all my bloods have been normal, 2 stool samples that were normal, they did an ECG which was normal, chest x ray which was normal, they did a CT scan with contrast of my abdomen which again was clear. I had a Endoscopy as I was having some issues with my throat for about 2 years that again was clear.

I have spoken with my doctor who says its GERD and to follow a low acidic diet and take medication but so far it's not helping, I really don't know what more I can ask? I suppose it's a good thing that all my scans are clear but I have such bad health anxiety it makes me worry especially when you google your symptoms.

Did you manage to find a diagnosis?

  • Hi,

thank you for your concern. I am really sorry to hear you are having similar issues and are obviously worried. They removed my gall bladder when it wasn't inflamed. I just had a large gall stone, the pain in my left side eventually went. Still no idea what that was. I have recently had pain again on right side where gall bladder was but have to have regular liver function blood tests as I was put on statins for cholesterol and I think they have to keep checking your liver. I have had a few abnormal results but the last one was normal.
Last summer my health anxiety was at a ridiculous level. It was controlling my life. I was so down but couldn't stop myself googling and convincing myself I had a serious illness. I spoke at length to my doctor and for the first time they prescribed sertrolin antidepressant. It is only a low dose but has worked wonders. I also did a 6 week online consultation for health anxiety which was again brilliant. This was free and with PTS.
I still have bad moments and if I start to google manage to convince myself something is wrong but, (fingers crossed) it doesn't take over.
I really hope you are ok

  • So glad to hear you are okay.

the last few weeks my health anxiety took over me I wouldn't eat without feeling sick couldn't sleep and when I did was waking up in the middle of the night sweating.

slowly I have started getting better, your symptoms were the only one I found online on a forum that match mine so wanted to check how you were.

I'll go back to my doctor and see if they will refer me to get my gallbladder removed, maybe get a second opinion if she refuses as she's always very dismissive with any issue I go to her with. Maybe it's that what is causing the pain. Will definitely look at the online course I think that would be very beneficial.

    Thanks so much for replying
