Toddler Swollen neck glands 8 months

My 15 month old daughter has swollen neck glands/nodes for the past 8 months. At a routine 7 month development check the dr noticed a swollen lymph node. She advised it didn't concern her and that it was still there in two weeks see my GP. I did, she also wasn't too concerned and issued a prescription to take to clear any infections that may have been lingering. It didn't make it smaller an I thought it was getting bigger so my daughter was referred to a pediatrician.

I was advised the waiting could be up to 10 months so decided to go private. I seen the specialist who gave her a very thorough physical exam and ordered blood tests. He said it wasn't getting bigger and was easily moveablr but it was just another node swollen beside it. He ordered blood tests. He called to tell me these were normal. He said he was certain it was not anything serious as the glands were moveable.

I tried to not obsess about it. In the meantime at 13 months her public appointment came through. She seen a different pediatrician who said they didn't feel like anything suspicious and didn't need to see us for follow up. She mentioned that one result was slightly off. So she ordered a retest. It was that some cells were sticking together but 5/10 will have this show up in their results. Then she advised she'd only call back if there was a problem.

Once again I tried to get on with thing. Only now my daughter has developed two more swollen glands close by. The feel the same, but I called my GP just to see if they ever received the second set of bloods from 7 weeks ago and they have not.

I'm going out of my mind thinking my baby has lymphoma. Has anyone any information that could shed some light on this?

I try to think positively that two Drs have seen her, not concerned about how they feel. But now more are popping up. It's a real concern.

  • Hi mummyx3,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can certainly imagine this is a little unsettling as it's never easy when there is uncertainty or when changes are noticed. However do try to trust in the opinions and results you've received so far, as well as the fact that multiple people have seen her.

I would suggest you keep an eye on things and perhaps make a note of any changes - this will help to be proactive and to be able to track any differences. If you are still concerned you can then revisit your doctor and discuss these changes to hopefully get some clear answers.

If you'd like to discuss anything with our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi do you have any update on this? Going through the same x

  • Hi Mummyx3,

I can only share my experience as I had similar concerns with my little one

My son developed 2 swollen lymph nodes on the left side of his neck when he was 18 months old. The GP told me that they were moveable and not growing so not if concern but prescribed antibiotics to clear any infection. They remained the same size and I went to the GP again who referred him to ENT. I had after a telephone consultatio and he was send for an ultrasound of his neck. The US showed only reactive lymph nodes. He's now almost 4 yo the same 2 lumps are there, same size and shape.

I remember how worried I was as well and I hope you have a similar outcome! Xx
