Hard Pea Like Lump

Hi,

I'm just wondering if someone could put my mind at rest. I'm trying to avoid the GP at the minute due to COVID-19.

I found this hard pea like lump on the side of my chest, just under the armpit. It's not painful until I press on it. I'm not sure what to think.

  • Hi [@maccajacobson]‍,

I came back from the breast clinic today, for a lump under my armpit which in my case is apparently a long lymph node (although this doesn't reassure me but hey ho)

rule of thumb does it move when you push on it? Is it bigger than a pea ? Has it been then more than a few weeks? If it meets any of those criteria's then I would make an urgent appointment however I would still make one just to be on the safe side, could be a cyst but you never know so check to be sure.

    all the best,

  • Hi Becks.

Is a lymph node something to not worry about? Unless I've misread there's information under Breast Cancer in regards to these. But I'm so confused.

It does not move when I apply pressure. And it might sound strange, but I can't be 100% sure of it's size, might be pea size, could be slightly bigger. I've only just noticed it today so I couldn't tell you how long it's been there.

I did call 111 when I discovered it. They advised to call Doctors. Which I did, waiting for them to call back. They're not seeing anyone face-to-face, so I'm not sure how they'll know if it's cancerous or not over the phone.

  • Morning,

well it can be, if it's a lymph node on it's own there can be simple explanations such as an infection that can cause it. However, if you have a lump on your breast too it can be a sign of breast cancer that has spread to the axillary node. It doesn't sound strange about not knowing the size, I was sure a lymph Node in my collarbone was pea sized but it was measured as 3.5mm but skin, depth, ribs can make it all feel different. I had an ultrasound scan yesterday on my armpit, she couldn't see anything sinister just a long lymph node apparently, but I'm not convinced it doesn't feel like that, she also said most people can feel them and they are likely if you shave too! I don't feel much better to be honest.. I'm gonna call my doctors for some reassurance this week. However, I think when you speak to them they'll arrange for you to come in and send you for an ultrasound!

    best of luck,

remember most lumps that are found are more often than not benign!

  • Hi Becks.

Well this morning I've found another one, this time in the armpit. Exactly same. Still waiting for Doctor to call. I don't usually worry about lumps and bumps, but this is like nothing I've felt before, plus there's a history of cancer and breast cancer in my family.

    Hmm.

  • If there's more than one in the armpit it definitely sounds like lymph nodes which can swell for many reasons, I would demand a phone call back today and if you don't hear by afternoon keep calling/don't hang up until you've spoken to a doctor. Your health is priority especially with what's going on atm!

hope to hear progress for you x

  • Doctor phoned today. Told me to keep a looking out for various things. Two of which I've already noticed.

Redness/rash like colour around the lump and lump temperature is warmer than the surrounding skin. I've noticed both of them just now.

Getting worried. Or am I just being over dramatic.

  • Hiya,

im not a doctor but from what is researched it it's a warm lump it's usually a sign of infection.
let your doctor know though x
