Breast Lump + London + Covid-19

I have a lump in my right breast and have been referred to the breast clinic at the hospital on Tuesday. Doctor friends working at the hospital are telling me how bad the situation is there right now. Their ICU is full and wards are almost at breaking point. I'm really worried about the lump but I also have immune deficiency. I don't know whether to go to the appointment. Most cancer treatment has been suspended here anyway. Our family has been in isolation for almost 2 weeks as 2 of us are high risk. I don't know whether to risk the virus or risk leaving a lump which may well be nothing....Head exploding....

  • Hello FlutterbyCL
I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found a lump and it's understandable given the current climate that you're feeling an additional level of anxiety.
I wonder if you might be able to get in touch with the department who have booked your appointment for some advice befreo your appointment. I'm sure that you won't be the only person who needs to attend that has high risk health conditions and they will be able to give you some advice that will hopefully reassure you.

If you'd like to speak to one of our nurses for some support then give them a call on 0808 800 4040 (Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm).

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Jenn. That's a really good idea. Finding it hard to think straight right now. x

  • Just had a text from the hospital to say that all appointments are being cancelled and I'll receive a phone call instead. Now I'm panicking I won't be seen at all...

  • Hi FlutterbyCL
I know that this will have been really worrying to hear but the hospital are trying to make sure that they keep people as safe as they can. Which with your immune condition is a good thing!

I'm sure that if they feel you need to be seen then alternative arrangements will be made perhaps at a different location as soon as they are able.

Hopefully you'll hear from them soon.

I know it's a cliche but try not to panic.
    Best wishes,
