Results of FNA Thyroid confusion

Evening,I hope someone can perhaps tell me not to worry/ panic.

December my husband had a scan and FNA on a lump on his thyroid it took almost 4 weeks for a letter to come through stating that the FNA came back inconclusive. The lump is measuring around 4cm by 3 by 4? And that they felt another FNA was needed. He had the follow up FNA last week and today received a letter to see him in clinic tomorrow?  Letter was sent by hospital yesterday. Husband had actually put the letter in bin and I found it ( urghhhh). He says it's too short notice and if it had been important they would have phoned him. He phoned up and left a message to cancel appointment tomorrow before I saw letter!!!! Seriously!

Now in my panicked mind I'm thinking why would they give him such a quick appointment from the FNA and yes like he says they woukd phone if it was important? What happened in your case? thank you x

  • Hello Mrspirate,

Well done for rescuing that letter from the bin! Though it's a shame he cancelled the appointment before you found the letter. It might be worth ringing the hospital again to see if you could get another appointment and asking whether they can tell you more about it all.

I hope you manage to speak to someone about this and that you will soon hear from others here who have been in a similar position before.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Lucie for your reply. They want to see him Monday but he has already said he can't because of work! I'm at the point of saying screw work he needs to know the outcome. Praying it's negative as then we can move on from this but on the other hand I feel that then scheduling for Monday feels kind of urgent?! He is sleeping a lot at the moment, napping all the time ( only in his 30's) but I'm telling myself it's stress related. Sigh

  • So the consultant phoned him today to let him know that they want him to have surgery and have half of his thyroid removed for further testing. Has anyone been through this? The consultant says they want to do the op within two weeks but because of the current crisis this may not happen.

My hubby didn't ask any questions so I've got to await to see what the consultants findings were when he gets his letter.

obviously I'm scared about the outcome but he seems very unfazed and quoted it's only a 20% chance of being sinister?

sorry rambling my mind is racing 100 miles an hour
