Really worried and confuse 2wk wait/gynaecological referral

Hello,

Would really like some advice?!  I went to the GP on friday as I've been having irregular bleeds for a few months and thought I'd best get checked.

The Gp was lovely asked questions about pain, urinary symptoms ect and then examined me, which I wasnt expecting! I informed her I I currently have thrush and was unaware of having it until that day as I couldn't feel any symptoms and I'm normally on the ball.

I have ongoing urinary problems with interstitial cystitis and painful intercourse due to complications in childbirth, so most of the "normal" symptoms with cervical cancer were not a flag to me except the abnormal bleeds.

After the examination the GP explained she had found something abnormal on my cervix and wanted to refer me for an urgent appointment to the suspected cancer service. She had taken swabs and the results should be back today or tomorrow and to expect a phone call from the hospital about the referral, I will be seen within 2 weeks.

I called the surgery today to get some clarity as I feel I was in a blur, once the C word was mentioned. They have said I've been referred to gynaecology and it may be longer but not to worry and wait for either the surgery or hospital to call?!

Could anybody help? Has anyone else experienced this confusion?

Thank you in advance.x
