Breast biopsy

Hello. When I was 18, I found a small lump in my breast which I went to check with breast clinic in my home country, and back then doctor diagnosed it as fibroadenoma. He said I'll need a surgery, but as I was young, I was too scared and never came back to clinic. As years went by, this lump has increased in size so last year I went to my gp to raise my concerns and he refers me to breast screening department in hospital. They did a scan, and sent me a letter, that it's just innocent lump and no further treatment needed. Last year my lump was 11mm in size. This year I felt that this lump has increased in size twice as much and went back to my gp, and again they referred me back to hospital. Last week Monday (2/3/20) in hospital I had a scan, and needle biopsy test. Doctor said that lump now is 22mm in size.  Have not received any results yet, but received a letter with further appointment for 2nd biopsy test and it really stresses me out. I don't know what should I expect. Anyone else had similar experience? I really hope it's not cancer....

  • Hello Justina

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having some on going concerns over this breast lump. It's good that you've been having it checked at the hospital over the past few years but ti's understandable that you're feeling concerned about things now that you've been asked to attend for a 2nd biopsy.

There could be a number of reasons for the request for a further biopsy. It doesn't automatically mean that this lump is something concerning.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for some firmer answers and reassurance but if you'd like to speak to one of our nurses about your worries then please do give them a call on 0808 800 4040 (Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm).

    Best wishes,
