Waiting 4-6 weeks in Wales - Any Advice?

Hi

I lost my mum to breast cancer at 57. She had it first at 42. I had a hysterectomy, as she did, in my late 30's, including ovaries so I have been on hrt, as was my mum, for over 4 years. I am 40

In December I felt a lump. Upper left breast and I think a lymph node up nearby. I used to work in radiotherapy so my oncology knowledge is better than I would like. I waited to see if it disappeared and finally went to the GP 2 weeks and 2 days ago. The referred me urgent suspected cancer same day.

I used to live in London and worked at the Royal Marsden - if I was still there I would have been seen by now. England has a 2 week target, however Wales doesn't and I have been told by the hospital it will be 6 weeks.

I'm also menopausal as I have had to stop my HRT.i have a 20 year old daughter at uni doing a masters at Southampton. It's always just been the two of us, we are so close, she calls more than once a day. It's so hard keeping my emotions under control. It's making my depression worse and my arthritis and fibro.

Now this virus has hit. 6 known in my area. Who knows when I will be seen.

Anyone think it's worth me calling the hospital again? I'm sure they are seeing people as quick as possible but everyone keeps telling me (friends) to chase it up.

Any advice on my daughter or wait appreciated.

  • I don’t think there’s any harm in asking especially if you have noticed any changes. Feel so bad for you. Hoping you will get some answers soon. Make sure you hunt out reputable websites for advice and see if there are any helplines you can call.  I would also say that once you are in the system with your diagnosis your treatment will get underway quickly. Keep in touch x

  • Thank you for your reply. I think I will give them a call tomorrow. The first time I rang the lady was so unhelpful, fingers crossed I get someone else next time.

It is so worrying, I seemed to cope okay for the first 2 weeks but I think my patience is quickly dissappearing!

I will stay in touch, thanks again. X
