PCOS & Abnormal smear with HPV

Please can i have some advice!

i have been diognosed with PCOS for just over 2 years and been suffering for much longer.

i went for my first smear in August 2018, where the test was inconclusive but HPV was present.

i have since tried to go for a smear 4x with the same result of HPV + inconclusive, after concerns i was referred to a Gyno in the hospital who THOROUGHLY made sure the sample was gonna get a result.

the results have just come in as Low grade Dysk with HPV and i have an appointment for colpscopy in a few weeks.

The letter i recieved mentioned biopsys and cameras and i am very scared.

Is there more chance of getting cancer with PCOS and HPV?

Should the HPV have left my system in 18 months?

Should i be prepared?

  • Hi

Low risk dysk means there have been slight changes in the cells. This does not mean cancer but they will remove the cells so they dont develop into anything. Testing positive for HPV is very common and it likely won't cause any issues. All it means is that the virus is present and they will keep an eye on any changes with regular smear tests. I'm not sure about the chances with PCOS but as long as you have your smears it will keep an eye on any changes.
