Partners referral

Hello I am new to this forum but feel that I needed to look for a little advice. I have myself suffered with cervical cancer stage 2 and have recovered with no problems at all. The last few months my partner has had this yellow filled growth near his tonsils which contain clear blood vessels(not sure if this is significant or not) I took him to doctors last week who said he had pharyngitis and was given anti biotechs but she also did a referral to the ent specialist due to the growth in the throat. We asked whether it could be cancer and she advised it didn't look that sinister but she obviously couldn't say definitively either way. Any way my partner does suffer with persistant soar throats, tonsillitis and also has been experiencing over the last six months a little croak in the throat and the need to clear his throat regularly. We also noticed last night a cobble stone texture to the side of his throat that the growth is on. His referral came through today for next Monday (I feel this is quite quick all in all 2 weeks since his doctor appointment with the local gp) he is 31 so not in the (common age bracket for throat cancer) but he is showing symptoms (I know bad dr Google) just looking for a little advice of how quick these referrals actually are and whether anyone has similar symptoms and their outcome. Just to note he is a smoker, doesn't drink but I had a positive hpv on my cancer screening when being diagnosed with cervical cancer. Thank you in advance

  • Hello . I went to the doctors early January complaining of a sore throat that I had had since August . ,That  was my only symptom. My appointment came through exactly two weeks after that. I have been diagnosed with base of tongue cancer , stage etc not yet known . I should be starting treatment in a few weeks time . It doesn't always mean it's going to be cancer getting an early appointment I guess I was just lucky. My lymph nodes are now swollen in my neck , have you checked your partners neck for any swelling or pea size lumps. Don't read Google hardly  any of that information is correct . I think you are lucky having your appointment this quick but it doesn't necessarily mean he has Cancer . X x x

  • Hi

From what you described it sounds more like a cyst. Is it filled with yellow fluid or more like a mass? I may be wrong but if the dr said it didn't look sinister at first glance that's a good sign. I hope he gets answers soon. Take care

  • It seems to be quite a solid looking thing but tissue like at the same time. The antibiotics ended today and it doesn't seem to have decreased or shrunk nor has it seem to have grown. We shall just have to wait till Monday to have another opinion or some indication of what it is thanks for replying

  • Firstly sorry to hear of your news. Scary times. I have checked his neck I can't seem to find any swollen lymph's but he says he can. Mind you mine are always inflamed have been since I was 16 but mine I think is down to the glandular fever I had. I have had biopsies done in several of my lymph's during this time due to the swelling. I am grateful of course that the appointment is quick I guess I just panicking a bit after googling so much over the last few weeks. Thank you for your reply and all the best with your treatment x

  • I'm sure they will have some answers or at least an idea of what they think it is. Definitely keep us updated x
