Small black raised mole

I have been quiet unwell lately with muscle twitch etc but around two weeks ago I noticed a small black raised mole which i thought was a blood blister and stupidly I picked it off . It bled a bit but since then the area seems swollen. I went to GP and she said she can’t see anything because it’s scalped over. Can someone please put my mind to rest or shall I go back?

  • Hi

I had something similar happen last year. I had what looked like a black mole on the back of my leg. It fell off days later and left a mark for a few days then disappeared. My dermatologist said it wasn't a mole because cancerous moles don't fall off. If you had a scab on top of a mole there would still be something very visable underneath. I'm not a dr but it sounds like maybe you had a wound that scabbed over and maybe the area is slightly swollen from the trauma. If it continues definitely go back to the gp. Good luck

  • Hi Daisy,

I, like your GP and Sparkles, don't think it was probably a mole. If you've never noticed it before, you were able to pick it off and the area is now swollen there is more chance it was a blood blister & this has caused the bleeding & scabbing. You can't pick or scratch off a mole without it leaving some mark behind & the swelling may be caused by a slight infection after picking the 'blister' off.

I suggest that you wait to see what happens when the scab falls off. If there is no sign of anything underneath it was fine. If there is a pigmented spot in it's place, go back to your GP to get reassurance.

    Good luck,

    Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Hi!
Iv literally had this experience today.
I have never noticed the freckle sized blister before today, I went to scratch it and it just came off and now I'm panicking that it was something cancerous.

i run a fair bit, so I wondered if my sports bra rubbed or something and caused a blood blister, but you go on google and everything tells you that you have a melanoma I'm 32 years old and am panicking in the current climate as it is, this has now added to my stresses. I will be in contact with the GP in the morning.

    kind regards
