How do I know if a lump is ‘moveable’?

I found a large lump last week & got in to the doctors on Friday evening. Very efficient urgent referral to breast clinic for next Tuesday (still 8 days to wait!).

I have done lots of reading online (I know I shouldn’t) & my gut reaction is that the lump is not a cyst. I then looked at fibroadenoma (benign tumour) but I am struggling to know if my lump is ‘moveable’ ... it is too big to see if it rolls between the fingers like some descriptions give.

Thanks

  • Hello SF262

I can understand how difficult the wait for your appointment is and it's natural to try and second guess what this lump may be.

I'm glad to hear that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment as the breast care team will be best placed to answer all your questions. However we have lots of ladies here who have been in similar situations and I hope that some of them will pop along to share their experiences with you and offer some support.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses in the meantime then you're welcome to call them. I'm sure that they will be able to offer some support and reassurance. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

  • Thanks for taking the time to reply Jenn. We are lucky enough to have a nurse at work who was helpful yesterday when I asked her the same question. She seems to think that the lump probably doesn't seem 'moveable' as you would typically expect due to the size of it rather than anything else, it is about 7cm. We talked about possibly fibroadenoma as an option, but either way,  the appointment gets closer each day. Thanks again.

  • I'm glad you've been able to chat to someone about your concerns.

Hope all goes well next week. Do let us know what happens at clinic.

    Best wishes,
