Complex ovarian cysts

I saw the gynaecologist as I've been having lots of pain and problems with my water works and bowel, fatigue etc. I had a hysterectomy 11 yrs ago when I was 29. they found 2 10cm simple cysts but on the left side and they also found a large unstable complex cyst on the right. I was immediately sent for the cancer blood test. And given another appointment for 2 weeks time with the MDT. I also had a letter for an mri in 3 weeks time. Today a letter arrived saying that the MDT had my appointment changed, the mri is now being done in 2 days. Should I be worried?

  • Hello Aquiel05

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having some health problems recently. it makes sense that the MDT may have asked for your MRI to be done sooner as they would want all results to be available when they discuss your case. If the MRI wasn't done until after the meeting then this would delay them being able to give you information about what is going on for you as well as delay any potential treatment plan.
It's easy to try and read between the lines when you're in this limbo phase of waiting but try to keep positive and hopefully you should have some news before too long.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

l have recently gone through similar.

i had been seeing gp for a while with pain in side and blood tests had been a bit random so gp sent me for ultrasound on 29/12 this very quickly moved to a call from gp on 02/01 to say an urgent referral was made as 14cm mass and others seen at ultrasound. I then had gynae appointment 07/01 when I was told my case would be spoken about at MDT the following week and I would receive a call for an appointment after.  The dat after MDT I received a letter saying an urgent CT had been booked for a few days later but I called the nurse who told me this would then have to be seen at the following MDT meeting so a few weeks waiting around.( I did have lots of blood tests done at first gynae appointment and was told ca-125 was within limits so that was good).

I then received an appointment for gynae 27/01 were I was told surgery would be done quite soon to remove cyst/mass and ovaries etc as 43 and already had hysterectomy years before.  It didn’t quite go to plan but had laparotomy 18/02 and one ovary was stuck to bowel so I’ve unfortunately had to keep that one.

Im now awaiting biopsy results although surgeon didn’t seem overly concerned I’ve called and been told there’s massive delays at my hospital for biopsy results at the moment but the waiting is driving me insane.

i have a post op appointment 15/04 to discuss remaining ovary etc..

So my point is although it seems a long time it will actually all be looked at quite quickly and you won’t wait long to start a plan for surgery/treatment the problem is many cysts cannot be identified properly until biopsy after surgery but very rarely turn out to be cancer.
