Breast lump, pain underarm and slight nipple inversion

Hi all,

About a month ago I started to feel an uncomfortable pain under my arm and around my right breast, after insepecting it I found a small hard lump just to the left of my nipple. This has freaked me out immensly but I went to my GP straight away who didn't seem concerned considering my age (I'll be 22 in May). It's been about three weeks now and I am waiting on an appointment to get a scan, however the lump and pain are still there and I have noticed that my nipple has started to just slightly sink inwards. This has really started to stress me out as I know these are all signs of breast cancer, and what's more annoying is that I still haven't heard anything from the breast clinic. I guess Im looking for some re-assurance and wanted to see if anyone else has had symptons like this that has turned out to be something other than cancer?

Any help or advice would be so appreciated.

  • Hello erinann808 and welcome to our forum,

I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to hear back from the breast clinic. I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

Sorry I know your post is quite old could you tell me what happened I'm in a very similar position as you was and wondered what your outcome was if you don't mind sharing x

  • I second this!

hope it went well for you x

  • Hi there,

So after a month or two of waiting on the NHS, I decided to go private as I kept being pushed down the waiting list due to my age. It turned out to be Fibroadenoma (Thank God)! However, the lump is still there, but I was told it probably wouldn't go away, which is slightly more reassuring. I still have slight pain sometimes, but from reading various forums online it appears that this is normal so i'm not worrying about it as much as what I did. I take Evening Primrose oil to help with the pain, which may help you if you are experiencing similar symptoms to myself!

Hope this helps in someway, try not to read too much on google as you will drive yourself crazy like I did! xxx

  • This is so lovely, everything went great!

Thank you for comment, much appreciated especially in times like these.

My lump turned out to be Fibroadenoma in case you didn't see my previous comment. If you are going through something similar to myself, please don't be driving yourself crazy! The consultant told me that lumps found in younger women are more than likely Fibroadenomas or Cysts because of our ever changing hormones!

Hope this is reassuring and has helped in someway. I hope that everything is okay with you xx
