Went to hospital for my biopsy on Monday wher Surgeon asked if I'd seen the pictures of the growth on the base of my tongue which he then showed me. He then said that they didn't look good and asked if I'd had a CT scan which I advised him I had done the week previously. Anaethatist then introduced himself and said that they would be making an early start and they would come for me shortly.
I then waited several hours and grew concerned as I could hear my name in conversations about changing Surgeons and theatres etc but couldn't hear enough of the conversations, I figured that there was some problem. The surgeon did come back to say that they thought I may have trouble breathing whilst in theatre as the growth was in my airway and that they thought that they may find someting lurking around the corner.......whatever that may mean.
Another aneathatist introduced themselves and said that a different surgeon would now take over the procedure and that I needed to have 5 minutes of oxygen in theatre before they started and that they may have to abort the procedure if I couldn't breathe or they would put in a Tracheaotomy which I needed to sign for then. This was all a shock as I've had no trouble with my breathing and am quite active. They seemed to think that I couldn't climb a stairway and must be breathless, they propped me up with pillows. the stress was bad and I think that it was wrong to spring this on me when they won't even let a loved one in with you and I was in there for 7 hours. Worried and thinking the worse for the results on Tuesday now, I left hospital with the appointment.
