Enlarged lymph node and lung nodule

Hi there,

First went to the doctor about six months ago with a lump on my neck. At the time they said it would go down and was likely a minor infection or cold.

In early Feb it was still there, I've lost weight and I've been having night sweats since the summer. I was referred to hospital where I had blood tested for everything, sputum sample collected, chest x ray and chest, abdomen and pelvic CTs.

Results have come back showing a 1cm nodule on my lung, on both the x ray and CT. I'm having a PET scan this afternoon, and a biopsy on the lump in my neck next week.

I'm very scared and the doctors haven't said much at this point. I don't know whether this means they've decided it is cancer and they're staging it, or is there a chance both lumps are benign and unrelated? And advice would be appreciated. It's been a month now since the doctors seemed to step up a gear and they seem to be acting with more and more urgency.

  • Hello Pepper28,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. How did the PET scan go? I hope that the biopsy on your neck next week goes well and that you won't have to wait too long for results. I can imagine it must be a particularly stressful time for you while waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment especially as the doctors haven't said much at this point but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
