Breast Lump & Clinic Referral

hi everyone, I'm not sure why I'm positing on here really, but I've been looking at other forums and they seem to have a way of making me feel more at ease.

i found a breast lump about 3 weeks ago, and left it a week to see if it would go away. I then visited an out of hours GP who said it just felt like normal tissue and I should be reviewed again in a weeks time. Fast forward to yesterday, I was seen again at the GP but by someone different. She said that she needs to refer me to the breast clinic, because of the lump and because I've been having an itchy nipple recently...

I am FREAKING OUT! I'm so nervous, it's like my brain can't possibly comprehend that it may not be something serious. I feel like I've already diagnosed myself without even seeing anyone.
I'm just hoping there's anyone who has been in my position and knows how I feel.

i don't like speaking about it to people in person because I feel as though I'm being dramatic!

  • I have a clinic appointment on 16th for a nodule in breast that was picked up a CT for my lungs. I haven't even seen the consultant about the potential lung cancer diagnosis and now I have this too!

I suffer from terrible anxiety so understandably a bit of a mess

You will get a call quite quickly but don't let that alarm you. Mine was the next day!

Let me know when you get a date

    Take care

    Andrea

    Hi Catmum,

Welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear of your symptoms, but please remember that being referred to the breast clinic is to rule out breast cancer as well as to diagnose it. Of all the people referred to the breast clinic, only 1 in 8 will turn out to have cancer, so the odds are still in your favour.

Many of us here have been in your situation and we are fully aware of how scary it is. You can talk to us about your feelings as much as you want to, as we all know what you are going through. Rest assured that none of us will feel that you are being over dramatic. Please do not consult Dr Google in the meantime, as this will only worry you unecessarily.

Please let us know how your visit goes. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    HI Andrea,

I am so sorry to hear that you have been hit with a double whammy, but hope that there will be better news once you've had some tests.

Please let us know how you get on and, remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks Jolamine

Chest CT was clear so had 4 weeks to wait to see consultant next Monday. I am incredibly fatigued and in so much pain I can barely function and nobody is doing anything. My children and I are like zombies because they are worried too. This tiredness is like nothing I've ever known

  • Hi Andrea,

  • Thank you Jolamine, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed The waiting is the worst part but I'll get through it! My appointment is on Monday so will let you both know xx

  • Best wishes for Monday

    Hi Andrea,

I am glad to hear that your chest CT was clear, but so sorry to hear that you are so fatigued and in so much pain. I know what you mean about such extreme tiredness. I suffered with this when I was first diagnosed. I just couldn't fight it and, I was like this for 4 years. I could fall asleep anywhere, which was totally out of character for me. I found that the only way was to give in to it.

It is now 10 years since my first diagnosis and 9 since my second bout. I am still tired, but nothing like I was then.

I shall be thinking of you next Monday and, hope that the results are not as bad as you're imagining. What ages are your children? It sounds as if they are supporting you to the best of their ability. Remember that the more positive you can be when telling them about your diagnosis, the better they will take it. Don't forget to ask for something to combat the pain when you are at the clinic.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
