Lymphoid Hyperplasia

i was referred to ENT by my GP because of a recurring sore throat. the ENT DR was lovely. he started bty saying 90% of urgent referrals were viral so should be fine. Then he looked down my throat through my nose. He there and then diagnose Lymphoid Hyperplasia of my tongue and sent me for a scan with contrast of neck, throat and chest. the scan date was for less than a week after appointment but i had to change as i was away. I had the scan last Thursday and i had a phone call at 8pm last night to say the ENT consultant needs to see me this week. I'm goping to see him on Friday mormning at 8.45am. he did mention when i saw him before the scan he may have to do a bioopsy but i think the speed of seeing him after getting the scan and the fact they called at night is worrying me a bit.

  • Hello ellie74,

I just wanted to drop by and welcome you to our forum. How did your appointment with the consultant go this morning? Did you have to do a biopsy in the end?

Try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be until you get all your results. I know it's easier said than done though but hopefully it won't be long now until you get clarity on all this.

    Keeping everything crossed for you!

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks for messaging So he said the bit he was looking at was actually fine but that sometimes when they do these scans they spot something else. Turns out I have a mass in my throat at top of esophagus. His secretary is going to phone me to book me in for day surgery to remove it and decide from that what's next. He showed me the scan and you can see it clearly. Anyway a waiting game again. Xx

  • Hiya , hope you managed to get this sorted . Are you ok now? X

  • Thanks so much for messaging

I had my pre op done then covid19 happened. He wanted it done by end of March. I spoke to his secretary on the 17th and was told all suspected cancer surgeries were still going ahead - 1st time they had mentioned the word - anyway lockdown happened and so I'm still waiting. Still getting sore throats, very tired but just getting on with things until they tell me I have something to worry about I'm not going to worry. Our local hospital has started some surgeries so hopeful will get done in the near future.

    Take care

  • Sorry you are still waiting , I'm waiting too as have a mass at the top of my throat . Had a 2 week referral , they rang after a week and chatted over the phone but said I'd need to go in ... due to covid I'm still waiting :( I'm trying to put it to the back of my mind but I find it hard . I was doing that bad thing of googling when I came across your post. Hopefully not too long for you too xx

  • I did the google thing to...mybfriend is a go and rapped my knuckles lol. It's hard...its the not knowing. I feel if I know what it is I know how to deal with it. My friend who is the gp does wonder if it may be a mass on my thyroid as i have symptoms of an underactive thyroid but tested negative..so wondering if that is what it is. I've seen mine and it looks huge..know it's not really but it goes half way across my upper oesophagus- looks like a finger coming out the side into the middle. Hopefully you'll not have to wait long to get some answers. Take care and I'll say a wee prayer for you if you dont mind. Feel free to message or chat anytime xxx

  • Thank you and prayers most welcome ... yes I agree not knowing is the hardest part.
sending beat wishes to you and thanks again xx
