Worried

Hi everyone, I feel a bit daft posting this because it's probably been asked a million times but is there anything I can do other that wait for my appointment? Would I get any answers from a+e? Basically I went to the breast clinic 4 weeksago and was diagnosed with 2  suspected fibroidenomas but was given a biopsy due to my age.(26) More lumps have since appeared and the 2 I had have grown so I have been referred back to the clinic b it have to wait another 2 weeks! I'm going out of my mind! Any advice would be appreciated thank you!

  • Hi Han,

I am very new to this so I am sure others will reply with more experience, but in my very limited experience they are usually fast, and faster again if they think there is a problem.

When I was your age I found a lump and it was suspected fibroadenoma. When I finally got to ultrasound there were loads of them so they did biopsies which showed normal breast tissue. They could tell me at ultrasound it was FA's and the biopsies came back some weeks later.

I am 20 years older now so when I find lumps and bumps which I have over the years I have never been concerned. Even when I found my current lump which is 3.5cm x 2.5cm I haven't been overly worried. So when it took me 4 weeks to get into the GP, and then went onto the 2 week pathway I was okay and was seen within 10 days of referral.

As I am a lot older they did a mammo which showed what they thought was a cyst, so they did an ultrasound and went hmm could be fibroadenoma so they did a biopsy. They did tell me there and then it looked sinister. So that 2 week wait was a nightmare and so I understand how you are feeling.

When I got to clinic last Monday they told me the ultrasound looks like cancer but the biopsy just showed normal breast tissue so they think they missed it. So like you on the two week wait and said no biopsy - not going through two weeks like that again! Anyway, I did have the biopsy because the result of whether or not it is cancer comes back in 7 days. It's the growth that takes the extra 7 days. So I like you have been going out of my mind this last 7 days.

Everyone on here seems to say the waiting is the worst. I agree. Espcially as I know its surgery no matter what and I am more scared of an anesthetic than anything else.

My advice is firstly to ring the hospital in the morning to get your clinic appointment,  when you get your clinic appointment, tell them how the waiting is awful, make sure you get your biopsy results from last time if you haven't had them and see if you can go back after 7 days to find out if it is cancer. You won't get answers from A&E because their job is to treat emergencies and no matter how stressful this is, they won't see it as an emergency.

I know it's no use telling you not to worry because everyone on this forum is worried, but try and put it into perspective that if your initial biopsies were a worry they would have had you back in by now.

  • Hi thank you very much for getting back to me! Yes the waiting round is horrible it's like mental torture back and forth in your mind isn't it! Unfortunately I didn't get a biopsy done the first time around, they said they didn't think I needed one due to me being under 30 and having no family history, it's only now that Iv been back with new lumps they are sending me for one! It's so hard to try and stay positive isn't it when it's literally a 50/50 chance of something really normal or something life changing. I will keep my fingers crossed for you, and hope you get the best outcome. It's a horrible time for us all. I think maybe I will leave going to a+e and maybe try calling the breast clinic in the morning with the hope of a cancellation appointment! I don't know how I will cope waiting until the 11th. I wish I'd of pushed for the biopsy on my first appointment at the clinic now!
