Scared I have lung cancer, thoughts please?

Hi their I wonder if anyone could help me, i had a bad chest infection in october it took 2 lots of doxycycline, I then in December was told I had pleurisy, I gave up smoking in october and not sure if related but had so much thick phlem, that has slowed down now and I was quite breathless, so a week after i got told i had pleurisy a doc said my airways sounded very narrow she gave me some co amoxiclav and inhaler and told me to see my usual doc once I finish antibiotics,  one week later I saw my doc she wasnt too interested in all what had gone on and offered me sertraline anti depressants, have had 2 chest x Ray's after the chest infection and that comment and they came back ok, I have chest pains, shoulder back knee, ankle pain, sputum test normal, had b12 checked it's fine I did a spirometery breathing test that was ok, went back to doc in pai I have had a thyroid check it came back low tsh but otherwise everything else normal and needs to be repeated after 6 weeks she asked of I was tired I said always she then reffered me to neurologist, I have also bein refferred to phisio this was my first refferral they said yesterday they would say fibromyalgia but because iv asked my doc to be seen by respiritory they cant diagnose that till respiritory all clear, I'm constantly in pain not really sure what it is I'm asking here just a little guidance in what people are thinking. I'm 29. Thankyou for taking your time and reading, if noticed today my neurology appointment is urgent so awaiting a date for that to come through, my upper back pain is awful knees and ankles hurt I feel it hurts around my chest with breathing just feeling tired, upset and not myself with the pain I'm feeling. Thankyou for your time.

  • Hello GI, after pleurisy it takes some time for the inflammation to settle down, your x rays are clear so good news.  My husband has lung cancer and apart from a cough he had no other symptoms which is usually the case.  Well done on giving up smoking but you are right you will feel worse before you feel better but that's a good start.  If we feel down we notice aches and pains more.  The two week urgent referral is normal procedure so stop fretting that it's ominous.  Try and rest, do some exercise that helps your bones and hopefully all goes well for you.  Carol

I Hope everything goes well for your husband.

Hi GI, pleurisy doesn't run in families it's just a really bad chest infection, just like pneumonia that's why your airways are narrow.  I noticed you posted on someone's else's queries similar to yours so obviously you still think it's worse than pleurisy.  You need to give infection time to heal and worrying that you have something more sinister won't help you.  Get well soon.  Carol

Hello, I do understand that I meant more so I haven't had anyone I know with pleurisy and know it can also be linked to scarier underlining health problems I just feel my ches infection from Oct and pleurisy over x mas would have calmed down now, my chest is constantly burning and my joints right shoulder and right knee more so is in pain, thankyou for your response I understand it's all a waiting game for me at the minute xx

  • Hi their, what are your symptoms, also how long have you had them for? I myself have burning pain, spine pain and shoulder pain, chest infections, thick phlegm and general weakness, are your blood tests coming back normal? Thankyou for your reply and yes I will do! I can imagine how you feel, it's all so worrying and having small children makes your mind run even more wild.here if you need a chat G

  • Was diagnosed one year ago, adenocarcenoma stage four lung cancer and have been on chemotherapy and immunotherapy every three weeks, another year of treatment to go....had shadow on shoulder blade, signs on upper spine and over-active lymph node, after three treatment, the 24mm lung tumour has reduced to 16mm and all other signs had disappeared, had a few side effects but otherwise generally ok, went to Canary Islands in January and currently decorating the house.....obviously have moments when the reality button hits hard, but my oncologist says all is being managed and that my end may well not be cancer, so get on with life normally!!!.......hope this gives you some encouragement

  • That's  an inspiring message.

I'm just in such turmoil because nothing is happening apart from me being in a lot of pain and severely fatigued. See consultant on Monday so hopefully they will do further tests as I am convinced the CT scan missed something

Well done for what you have achieved with the decorating and a holiday. That's great. You must be very resilient and strong and I am slightly in awe of that!
