Abnormal smear

I had an abnormal smear in 2018 was sent for a biopsy at the hospital they said to have another smear in 12 months time, which i did again abnormal result had another biopsy then a loop procedure which i then got a server infection that took over a month to get rid of. I was told to have a smear in 6 months time which i have and still have the cn1/2 cells really worried now.

Anyone else gone through this ?

  • Hello Susan8587,

I hope that you will hear from others here who have been through this before and have repeatedly had abnormal smears. Try not to worry too much though and I hope that our information here on abnormal cervical cells and on the treatment if you have abnormal cervical cells will reassure you. Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they may be able to answer questions you may have on this.

I hope that your treatment works well and gets rid of all the abnormal cells.

    Best wishes,

  • I'm going through a similar thing. 3 abnormal smear tests in a row with continued high grade cells and  2 loop procedures.

The upshot for me is a total hysterectomy (keeping my ovaries so I don't go into full blown menopause). This is being done a Preventative cancer measure. I'm also at an age where this isn't an issue and no more periods!
Please try not to worry. You're in the system and having regular checks.
My understanding from the nurse /drs I have seen is if this was left untreated there is a possibility it could develop into cervical cancer but you are doing the right thing to stop this happening.
I hope all goes well for you.
