Worrying abdominal/transvaginal scan

Hi all,

My name is Kate, I'm 32 and had a scan this afternoon, that has left me worried, the sonographer was taking lots and lots of measurements and at one point I could see her measuring what looked like a big dark mass?? She said my doctor would receive the report TODAY, the way she said those words left me quite troubled, she also noted that my uterine lining was very thick despite having been bleeding in excess only 19 days prior,

last Thursday I had a pelvic exam by my GP who had a look with speculum and noted there was a red lump and that the cells were different on the inside to the outside of my cervix?? She said she suspected an ectropian but couldnt be sure.

Anyhow I've been suffering with bouts of extreme heavy bleeding for the past several months, it has affected home/work life... I was having to double up on sanitary products and was still leaking through to clothes After being fobbed off with pill after pill, I got to breaking point on 7th Feb this year and demanded to be seen and heard.

I've always had irregular cycles as in long cycles and heavy for first 3out of 5-7 days however over the past several months I've been bleeding excessively for longer up to 2 weeks sometimes longer, with brown bloody discharge after sex inbetween periods etc or very watery discharge.

Has anyone experienced similar and was all o.k?

I'm terrified they're going to tell me I have cancer my last pap smear was normal but this all starting happening  months after that normal smear. Anyone have any reassurance they can offer?

  • Hi I joined this site today after having a cancer scare myself and with lumps i found near my breast (irrelevant to this post) I've been the same as you and looking over this site for answers and hope since I found my lumps so I know how you are feeling.

I don't have the symptoms you have myself but my mum has had this heavy bleeding you describe for about 6 and half years now, basically her periods were so heavy to the point she could not leave the house without needing to get to the toilet within 10 minutes they are still like this now. I went to her first scan with her about 6 years ago and they did the same to her as they have done to you measuring this thing ( I can't remember if it's joined to the outside of the womb or the inside but I can ask her for you) anyway it ended up being a fibroid which she still has now and is still suffering with the heavy bleeding. She has recently gone back to hospital because she can't cope with it any more they've done another a scan and it's really big now and she's going to have a hysterectomy  I think there are a few options other than this but I don't have much information on that part for you I just wanted to try and put your mind at ease a little that we were both worried like you at the ultrasound scan and thought the worst. I know she doesn't have the red lump on the cervix and I don't know if she have discharge after sex but I hope this could maybe put your mind at ease a little
