Screening

Hi

i found a lump and my doctor referred me to breast clinic, I've had my appointment through quick which is great, but my husband is away, and family are working which is fine, I'm happy going by myself, but husband wants someone to go with me, do I need someone with me, I really do feel fine going by myself. Any advice if support is needed at this stage?
thanks

  • Hi Binkyboo

I went by myself both at the intial screening and again for the recall. You can take someone with you but they would need to sit in the waiting room while you are being examined/screened. When I was there some did have people with them but I don't know if they were allowed in the room to discuss results with the doctors. The results would be either everything is okay or biopsies if they need to determine something they need further clarification on. If its the latter then you will be invited back for the results, at that point you may want someone with you. I didn't take anyone when I got my biopsy results as I knew what the results were and therefore was prepared beforehand. Hope everything turns out okay x

  • Thank you so much Magpiemaggie, that has helped so much, and more confident I will be fine by myself xx

  • No worries - please come back and let us know how you got on x

  • Hi

I had my screening today, consultant felt lump and sent me to have a ultra scan,

ultra scan found lump, and said she will try and drain with fine needle aspiration, but can see a odd black dot in the middle, so decided to try and drain it and hope it was a cyst, when she did the fluid was mixed with blood, so that's been sent of to be tested, has anyone had this? Then there was still a lump so biopsy's have been done, results will hopefully be on next week and the consultant said she will call when results are in. They didn't say it was too worrying, but a bit odd, so taking that as a good sign maybe, do they tell you if they are worried?
    thanks

  • Hi

When I was screened they did tell me what I was looking at only for that to be confirmed a week later. If they do suspect cancer they will also put a metal marker in the area for the surgeon. Fingers crossed your results are benign x

  • Thank you

They did put a marker in, just in case.

nice reading through the forums of people going through similar situations,
