Vaginal Bleed 11 weeks

Just looking for some advice, I have had weird vaginal bleeding for 11 weeks now, my period started like normal but just hasnt stopped. I had bleeding after intercourse in the summer too but now it is constant. I have the kyleena coil in situ and the nurse seems to think that's not the cause as it's been in for almost 2 years now and is a low dose hormone, although I'm now having it removed on Monday 'just in case'. I have had 2 courses of northisterone and tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding which failed- just made for a lighter bleed. I had a transvaginal ultrasound scan which appeared normal. I'm tired all the time- exhausted. I just dont know what to do, google led me to cervical cancer forums and its worrying me. My gp wont perform a smear as I am not due till september, they've done a referral today to gynae but said this could take weeks to come through. I've lost about 10lb but I have reduced appetite, feeling full all the time so thats probably why. Any advise?

  • Hello RSte00
I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with this health problem for a number of weeks now. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned.

Whilst the coil may not be causing your symptoms it sounds sensible to trial having this removed whilst you're waiting for a gynae referral appointment. You will have ruled this in or out as the cause by the time you're seen.
Whilst there is a lot of information available on the internet a lot of it can be unreliable or lead you to "a worst case scenario". If you can avoid Google it will help with your anxiety.

I do hope that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment and that you have some relief soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hey

i have been having issues for over a year. I got diagnosed with simple hyperplasia of the uterus which is where I produce too much oestrogen and not enough progesterone so my womb lining grows thick. The ideal treatment is the mirena coil to release progesterone directly into the womb. When I was diagnosed in March it was the begining of lockdown so I had to wait 9 weeks for my coil. In the meantime I was put on noritistherone which didn't work at all. I bled constantly. When I went for my coil fitting on 11th June they did a hysteroscopy (a camera in the womb) took a biopsy and I also had a polyp which they removed (the noritistherone should have stopped my lining growing so much to cause a polyp but it just didn't work for me) my polyp and biopsy came back clear but unfortunately my coil just came out 7 days after going in (I ended up in hospital with really heavy bleeding) which caused it to come out. I am waiting for my next coil to be fitted but in the meantime I was put on Provera which instantly stopped my bleeding much better than noritistherone. Maybe ask if you can try that? Sorry for the long winded story there x
